Prep Basketball Roundup: Grayling pulls off big comeback


The big difference in foul shots helped Cadillac take the lead for good midway through the final period. West (1-3, 1-1 Big North) led after each of the first three quarter breaks — 5-2, 12-7 and 20-19.

Paris Wagner had eight points to pace the Titans, while Jenna Erway had eight points for Cadillac.

Cadillac won the junior varsity game 40-23. Leading West was Makenna Mattson with eight points. In the freshman game Cadillac won 59-24. For West, Haley Bradley and Julia McKean each had six points.

Petoskey 38

TC Central 28

Petoskey outscored Traverse City Central 23-16 in the second half to post a 38-28 victory in Big North Conference play.

Callie Bartkowiak had eight points and Carrie Wynkoop six for the Trojans (1-4, 1-2 Big North), who play at Gaylord on Friday.

Central won the junior varsity game 26-22 as Abbey Green scored 14 points. In the freshman game Petoskey took a 40-34 win. For Central, Mary Drake led the way with 22 points.

Kalkaska 47

Harbor Springs 31

Kalkaska won its Lake Michigan Conference opener, defeating Harbor Springs 47-31.

The Blazers were led by Micah Lajewski, who had 10 points, six assists and four steals. Reyann Homan had eight points and seven rebounds, Alexis Hayden had eight points and five rebounds, while Taylor Birgy contributed seven points, seven boards and six steals.

Leading the Rams were Shallon Grawey with 10 points and Maddy Savard with nine points.

Kalkaska is at Grayling on Friday.

Elk Rapids 66

Charlevoix 49

Paige Granger poured in 25 points to lead Elk Rapids past Charlevoix 66-49.

Also for Elk Rapids (3-2), Rachel Hintz had 18 points and Bridget Hintz added 15 points.

For Charlevoix (2-2), Kelsey Enstrom had 18 points, four steals and two assists, while Alexis Tribselner added 12 points, five rebounds and four steals.

Northport 52

Alba 21

Autumn Huck had 15 points and Mariah Kalchik 14 to lead Northport (3-3) over Alba, 52-21.

Sidney Hogerheide led Alba with 13 points.

McBain 71

Manton 42

Manton stayed close in the first quarter, but McBain took over from there in taking a 71-42 win from the Rangers.

The Ramblers held a slim 7-6 lead after one period, but opened up a double digit lead in the second quarter and never looked back.

Asia LaGrow had 16 points and Kara Hugston 14 for McBain. Leading Manton (1-4, 0-3 Highland) was Karrah Baker with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
