Prep Basketball Roundup: Grayling pulls off big comeback


Central Lake 45

Cameron Jaunek had 22 points to lead Gaylord St. Mary past Central Lake 56-45 in a Ski Valley Conference matchup.

Central Lake’s Will Brockman led all scorers with 27 points.

Alba 52

Northport 32

Anthony Driver scored a game-high 22 points, but Northport fell to Alba 52-32.

Leading Alba was Brandin Milbocker with 14 points.

Northport (0-4) is at Evart on Friday.

Forest Area 59

Pellston 46

Forest Area was able to put Pellston away in the fourth quarter of a 59-46 victory in Ski Valley Conference action.

The Warriors (2-1) grabbed some big offensive boards and converted those into points down the stretch to create separation from a Pellston team that hung tough for three quarters.

Justin Burke led Forest Area with 21 points and eight rebounds, while Austin Vance had 16 points and 14 rebounds. Five of Vance’s boards were offensive rebounds.

Conner Kintz had 16 of his 22 points in the second half for Pellston.

Forest Area travels to Joburg on Thursday.

Onaway 65

Joburg 55

Joe O’Bradovich had 23 points and 12 rebounds as Onaway (1-1) downed Johannesburg-Lewiston 65-55.

Carlos Bautista had 11 points, eight rebounds and five steals for Onaway and Andrew Prow added 11 points.

Leading Joburg was Coalton Huff with 17 points.

Lake City 63

Marion 45

Senior Drew Marion hit for 20 points to go with seven rebounds and four assists as Lake City (2-1, 1-0) opened Highland Conference play at home with a 63-45 victory over Marion.

Sophomore center Lucas Marion, playing his first game after recovering from a shoulder injury sustained during the football season, made 12 points and Kevin Kunkel canned 10. Nate Holt and Tyler Bergey each had six and Kory Root pulled down seven boards.

Lake City led 18-6, 41-19 and 51-32 at the quarter breaks.

Senior Tyrell Hall scored 20 for the Eagles, including three treys, and Ethan Russell rang up 10.

GIRLS hoops

Cadillac 31

TC West 28

Cadillac shot 11-for-17 on free throws — with 14 attempts coming in the fourth quarter — while Traverse City West attempted only one foul shot in the Vikings 31-28 victory over the Titans on Tuesday at West Senior High School.
