Seven area wrestlers still alive in state finals

Seven wrestlers from the region are still alive at the individual state finals, including Onaway’s Joe Traynham, who will wrestle Hudson’s Roddy Hamdan for the Division 4, 112-pound weight class title on Saturday.

Traynham defeated Maher Ramirez of Banger with a pin in 2:44, then pinned Addison’s Marcus Richardon in 19 seconds before winning his semifinal match against Tyler Roberts of Hudson, 10-7.

Traverse City St. Francis’s Zach Schaub reached the semifinals of the 119-pound class but dropped to the consolation bracket with a 5-2 setback to Logan Griffin of Erie Mason.

Onaway’s Isaac Nave also fell in the 119-pound semifinals and is in the consolation bracket.

Others who are still competing include: St. Francis’s Jake Khoury, who went 2-1 at 285; Manton’s Tristin Rosted, who went 2-1 at 171; Boyne City’s Conner Mills, who was 2-1 at 152; and Forest Area’s Matt Elliott, who was 2-1 at 130.
