Lockwood taking part in U18 U.S. Nationals

COPPER MOUNTAIN, Co. — Traverse City Central downhill skier Lily Lockwood is competing in the U18 U.S. National Championships.

Lockwood is one of six females from the Central Division of the United States Ski Association, which encompasses 11 states, to qualify for the event.

After a couple days of training, Lockwood begins competing on Sunday for a Super G national championship. She will also take part in the giant slalom national championship on Tuesday and the slalom national championship on Wednesday.

Lockwood, a junior at Central, helped lead the Trojans to a runner-up finish at this week’s Division 1 state meet. Lockwood placed second in giant slalom and was third in slalom — team bests in both disciplines.
