TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City West swept the regular-season series with Traverse City Central with a rally to win 46-42 on the Trojans’ floor.
West trailed by a point at halftime (23-22) and going into the fourth quarter (30-29).
“It was a tight game the whole way,” Titans coach Greg Immink said.
Central jumped out to a 10-2 lead, but that would be the biggest either team would hold in the game. West rallied to pull even at 15-15.
The Trojans led 42-40 with two minutes remaining before several West steals turned into six free throw makes for K.J. Sayers in as many attempts to seal the game.
“The crowd was like you’d expect for a rivalry game,” Immink said. “It was a hard-fought rivalry game and we were fortunate to come out with a win.”
Alex Scott led the Titans (8-10, 7-4 Big North Conference) with 14 points and three steals, while Thiyo Lukusa added eight points and nine rebounds.
Mitch Wynkoop led Central with 13 points and Jackson Schrameyer had eight.
West — which has won seven of its last 10 games — won the first meeting 43-36 on Jan. 16.
Both teams have two games remaining. West travels to Ogemaw Heights on Monday and Big Rapids on Thursday before heading to Gaylord for its district opener on March 3. Central visits Midland on Tuesday and Cadillac on Thursday prior to hosting Petoskey in districts on March 3.
West won the junior varsity game, 55-31.
Chase Grierson led the Titans (15-3) with 15 points, while Nick Brzezinski added 14. James Brumfield had 13 for the Trojans.
