HARBOR SPRINGS — The Elk Rapids-St. Francis boys ski team won the Lake Michigan Conference Championships Wednesday to tie Harbor Springs for the overall season title.
The co-op team finished with 52 points, the Rams 64.
Harbor Springs won the girls championship with 34 points.
Carlee McCardel, a sophomore at St. Francis, won the league giant slalom.
In the boys race, Elk Rapids-St. Francis won it in the slalom, outpointing Harbor Springs by 12. Sean Wells placed third (1:14.25), Jake Klein fifth (1:16.30), Nick Cunningham sixth (1:17.40) and Addison Clark eighth (1:18.34). Harbor Springs’ Shea Fuhrman and John Bailey went one-two (1:11.25 and 1:12.62).
In the giant slalom, Wells came in fourth (58.05), Christian Stellin fifth (58.67), Klein ninth (59.79) and Clark 12th (1:00.66). Charlevoix’s Brandon Cardwell won the GS in 57.64.
On the girls side, McCardel captured the GS in 59.29.
Teammate Sara Trilla was seventh (1:04.17). Harbor Springs’ Tia Esposito (1:00.27), Sadie Cwikiel (1:03.02) and Alexa Wespiser (1:03.74) went 2-3-4.
In the slalom, the Rams took four of the top seven spots.
Demi Trabucchi (1:19.63) and Esposito (1:20.21) claimed the top two positions. McCardel finished third (1:20.97) and Trilla sixth (1:24.83).
