Kalkaska moving back down to Class C
TRAVERSE CITY — Kalkaska is moving back to the Class C ranks.
The MHSAA announced its enrollment list for the 2013-14 school year.
With 425 students, the Blazers will drop from Class B to Class C. They’ll be the fourth largest team in Class C behind Warren Michigan Collegiate, Beaverton and Farwell.
St. Ignace moves back into Class C after spending last year in Class D.
Lansbach wins NAIA national title
TRAVERSE CITY — Former Traverse City Central standout Dori Lansbach won the NAIA women’s basketball national championship as a member of Westmont College.
The Warriors beat Lee University 71-65 in the title game played at the Kentucky Civic Center.
Lansbach didn’t play in the title game. She finished her junior year with 95 points in 21 games.
Michigan loses LB Jake Ryan with ACL
ANN ARBOR — Michigan’s football team has taken a big hit during spring practice.
Wolverines coach Brady Hoke said Wednesday that junior linebacker Jake Ryan is out indefinitely with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Ryan was injured Tuesday in practice.
Ryan made a team-high 88 tackles last season, had 4.5 sacks and forced four fumbles. He was an All-Big Ten second team player and was voted the team’s top linebacker.
He has had a tackle for a loss in 17 of his last 19 games.
Pro Bowl returning to Hawaii in January
PHOENIX — The Pro Bowl will return to Honolulu next January and again will be played the week before the Super Bowl.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says Wednesday at the owners meetings that the all-star game he once considered scrapping has been scheduled for Aloha Stadium on Jan. 26. He adds that Hawaii will be included “on some sort of rotational basis” in any future Pro Bowl scheduling.
