As their respective teams keep rolling along, the individual honors keep rolling in for a pair of former area volleyball players.
Grand Valley State senior middle blocker Erica Vandekopple picked up a national award while Penn State sophomore setter Alisha Glass earned an accolade from the Big Ten.
Vandekopple, a Pellston grad, received honorable mention on the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II All-America team.
Vandekopple leads Grand Valley in kills per game (3.25) and hitting percentage (.360). Her hitting percentage is 27th best in the nation.
In addition to her hitting, Vandekopple also averages 0.85 blocks per game and has 43 service aces and 93 digs this season.
Glass, who hails from Leland, earned first team all-Big Ten honors. She was named to the league's all-freshman team last season.
The league award comes a week after Glass was the AVCA national and Big Ten player of the week. As a team, Penn State is hitting at a .337 clip, good for second in the nation.
Glass is averaging 12.97 assists per game and has five double-doubles this season. She also set a new school record for total blocks with 14 against Illinois.
Penn State (28-2) will be at home for the first two rounds of the NCAA Division I tournament. The Nittany Lions face Siena (24-7) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with the winner meeting the Albany (23-9) and Cleveland State (23-8) champion on Saturday.
While Penn State is preparing to start play in the NCAA tournament, Grand Valley State has already advances to the quarterfinals of the Division II tournament.
The Lakers (33-3) face West Texas A&M (25-7) at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Topeka, Kan.
