HOLTON -- Top-ranked Muskegon West Michigan Christian will have a chance to prove it's No. 1 Saturday.
Charles VanRees scored two second-half goals as the Warriors pulled away for a 5-1 Division 4 semifinal soccer win over Suttons Bay.
West Michigan Christian will play Auburn Hills Oakland Christian for the title Saturday in Troy. Auburn Hills Oakland Christian edged Southfield Christian 1-0 in a shootout in the other semifinal.
Suttons Bay ended its season at 21-6-1.
"That's (West Michigan Christian) the best team we've seen this season," Suttons Bay coach Randy U'ren said. "They're fast, they're big, they're skilled with the ball.
"In order for us to win that game, we would have had to play perfect and they would have had to make a few mistakes.
"They have 10 seniors on their team, and eight start. When you have that much talent, that much experience, that's a unique combination to have."
The Warriors, 21-1, led 2-0 at half. Dan Rosema scored the game's first goal midway through the first half. Then, with just about 40 seconds left in the half, Nate Bruinsma made it 2-0 when he tallied off a corner kick.
"That hurt," U'Ren said.
The Norsemen missed a chance to slice the deficit to one in the first minute of the second half when Blaine Fritz set up Shane MacDonald. But he could not convert.
"If we could have scored that goal and cut it to one, who knows (what could have happened)," U'ren said. "They were the better team, but all of a sudden it could have been 2-1."
Two minutes later, VanRees scored the first of his two goals to give the Warriors some breathing room.
Eric Prins netted the last Warrior goal.
MacDonald scored off a Fritz assist with 6:36 remaining to put the Norsemen on the board. It was MacDonald's 29th goal.
Fritz led the Norsemen this season with 30 goals.
"Our guys never quit, never gave up, as evidenced by that goal," U'ren said.
Suttons Bay will lose four starters to graduation.
