FROM STAFF REPORTS

The seeds held at No. 1 and 2 doubles during the semifinals of the Division 1 state tennis final.

That wasn't good for Traverse City Central.

At No. 1 doubles, the Trojans tandem of Harry Malone and Spencer Powell lost 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 to second-seeded Gabe Casher and Alden Tischler of Ann Arbor Pioneer in the semifinals.

Malone/Powell, the sixth seeds, finished with a 42-2 record.

At No. 2 doubles, top-seeded Brett Williams and Douglas Yang of Ann Arbor Huron knocked out the TC Central team of Jack Milliken and Ben Watts with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 decision.

Millken/Watts were seeded fifth. The duo were 39-5 this season.

TC Central finished the tournament with nine points, good for an 11th place finish. Huron captured the crown with 29 points.

DIVISION 4

Traverse City St. Francis placed seventh in Division 4 with 12 points. Elk Rapids was 12th with seven points.

"We more than doubled our point total from last year (5 to 12)," St. Francis coach Annie Murphy said. "I don't think our boys team has ever done that well (at the state meet)."

Ann Arbor Greenhills won the Division 4 title with 30 ponts, two ahead of Lansing Catholic.

Leading the Elks was second-seeded Aaron Mayes, who reached the semifinals at No. 1 singles before losing 2-6, 7-6, 6-1 to third-seeded Peter Sienko of Williamston.

Mayes won 6-1, 6-1 over Bridgman in the second round and 7-5, 6-1 over North Muskegon in the quarterfinals.

The Elks also got victories over Royal Oak Shrine from Max Bauer at No. 2 singles (7-5, 7-5) and Daniel Parlin/E.J. Campbell at No. 4 doubles (6-4, 6-1). Kyle Hoover/Josh Mosher won 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 at No. 2 doubles against Buchanan.
