Benzie X-C perfect at Central Invite

Huskies girls take top 5 spots at meet

TRAVERSE CITY -- Benzie Central's top ranked girls cross country took the top five spots Saturday for a perfect score at the Traverse City Central Invitational.

The Huskies' 15 points put them first behind host TC Central's 56 points. St. Francis (113) Ludington (141) and Lake Leelanau St. Mary (156).

Benzie's Devyn Ramsay was the overall champ in 18:54, followed by Theresa Warsecke (20:21.4) in second, Taylor Nye (20:24) was third, Markia Grabowski (20:48.9) was fourth and Jill Louisignau (20:51.1) was fifth.

TC Central -- who sat its top seven runners for both the boys and girls races -- had an eighth-place finish from Adrienne Bruder (21:34.3) while Sierra Olsen (21:34.5) was ninth, Kate Hertler (21:56.3) 13th, Mallory Weaver (21:57.8) 14th and Annica Wyskochil (22:07.6) 15th.

Morgan McCardel (21:02.4) was sixth for St. Francis, Emily Ritsema (21:08.5) was seventh for TC Christian while Benzie's Amber Peabody (21:21.2) was eighth.

Rounding out the top 20 were Glen Lake's Nadine Gilmer (21:52.4) and Bonnie Ricord (22:26.9), Benzie Central's Corrie Noah (21:54.2) and Kelsey Noah (22:20.7), Mason County Central's Alex Johnson (22:10.8), TC Central's Anna Reist (22:25.7), Gaby Balvadon (22:36.1) and TC St. Francis' Katy Olsen (22:31.9).

In the boys meet, Benzie won with 29 points, followed by Mason County Central (48), Ludington (71), Traverse City St. Francis (103) and TC Central (116).

William Patterson was second for the Huskies in 17:13.8 while Tom Smeltzer (17:17.4) was third, Talon Morris (17:34.8) fifth, Robert Kerby (17:39) seventh and William Huddleston (18:07.7) was 12th. David Rhodes (18:13.3), Nick Radionoff (18:!6.5), Travis Clous (18:27.8) and Marcus Lonn (18:40.7) added top 20 finishes.

Ludington's Adrian Martinez was the overall champ in 16:56.9 while teammates Steven Allard (18:05.4) and Michael Alexander (18:35.1) finished in the top 20.

Mason County Central placed Jared Lauber (17:29.3) fourth, Jake Hernandez (17:37.6) sixth, Sam Bayle (17:48.4) eighth and Nathan Briggs (17:51.3) ninth.

St. Francis had a 10th-place showing from James Alpers (18:03.8) while Alex Primeau (18:18.3) and Alex Grieve (18:34.7) finished in the top 20.

Central's Alan Jacobson was 19th in 18:37.2.

Medals were given to the top 10 freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors.
