PELLSTON -- The showdown went right down to the wire.
Pellston fought off a valiant Forest Area comeback Tuesday night to post a 25-20, 27-25, 16-25, 23-25, 15-12 win in a battle of Ski Valley Conference unbeatens.
The Hornets entered the match ranked No. 4 in Class D while Forest Area was No. 8 in Class C.
Pellston (28-4-4, 6-0) was led by Katie Dzedzie (34 digs, 20 kills, 35 of 35 serve receive), Maggie Mikus (14 digs, two aces, two kills), Samantha McNitt (three aces, 27 assists, 11 digs), Kristi Lewis (two aces, nine kills, nine block kills), Tayler Friend (two aces, 20 digs, 25 kills), Chelsea Bonter (33 assists, 13 digs, 17 of 17 serve receive) and Rachel Hutto (nine kills, three block kills, 10 digs).
The Warriors (30-6-2) had 22 kills and 16 digs from Mae Johnson, 20 kills and 13 digs from Chelsea Strine, 48 assists from Katie Johnson, 22 digs from Marissa Ingersoll, 16 digs from Camille Tornow and a solid floor game from Ashley Czuk and Cassie McGee.
Pellston competes in the Suttons Bay Invitational on Saturday.

Kingsley swept Suttons Bay in a battle of Northwest Conference unbeatens.
The Stags (35-4-1, 5-0 NWC) now share the conference lead with Benzie Central after beating the Norse 25-11, 25-15, 25-21.
Hannah Bach had 16 kills and three blocks for Kingsley, Sam Zubalik had nine kills, 11 digs and was perfect serving, Lauren Leach had 11 kills and three blocks, Erica Berridge had 32 assists and was perfect serving while Emily Fasel was perfect serving with 12 digs.
Suttons Bay (19-12-4, 4-1) was led by Ana Wodek (6 of 6 serving with two aces, eight digs), Hildi Forton (9 of 9 serving, 19 assists, eight digs), Kyra Shively (8 of 8 serving with two aces, four kills, three blocks, five digs), Angela Patterson (four kills, three digs) and Hannah Olson (4 of 5 serving with one ace, four kills, four blocks).
Suttons Bay hosts a 14-team tournament Saturday.

Glen Lake posted a 25-22, 25-8, 23-25, 25-22 Northwest Conference win over Buckley.
The Lakers (8-18-2, 2-3) were led by Kelsey Caswell (seven kills), Marriah Sobczak (10 digs, 10 aces, three kills), Casey Kahler (17 of 18 serving with seven aces, eight digs), Casey Hawkins (18 assists, six digs), Kira Surber (16 digs, 6 of 6 serving).
Buckley (7-29-1, 1-4) was led by its hitters -- Paige Gokey, Caley Blanchard and Emily Gibler.
Benzie wins tri-meet at Frankfort
Benzie Central picked up wins over Frankfort and Traverse City Christian to move to 31-9-3 on the season.
The Huskies beat Frankfort 25-15, 25-10, 25-13 to move to 5-0 in the Northwest Conference. Then in non-conference action, Benzie beat the Sabres 25-19, 25-14.
Jenna Scheele had 13 kills, two blocks and three aces for Benzie while Sara Thurkettle added 13 kills, five blocks and six aces, Haeley Melton had nine kills, six blocks and seven digs, Corrie Noah had four kills and seven digs and Raenee Harig 39 assists.

Elk Rapids moved to 5-1 in the Lake Michigan Conference with a 25-21, 25-11, 26-24 win over Harbor Springs.
The Elks (18-14-2) had nine assists, two blocks and nine digs from Olivia Morrison, Jessie Spoor added five aces, seven kills, four blocks and three digs, Sarah Otte had five aces and seven digs, Sam Matthews had four kills and two digs, Kelly VanDeusen had seven digs while Kelly Thelen had eight assists and four digs.
