Ambassadors to play in Cheboygan
CHEBOYGAN -- The Harlem Ambassadors will be in Cheboygan for a basketball game at 7 p.m. on Oct. 22.
The Harlem Ambassadors feature high-flying slam dunks, ball-handling exhibitions and comedy routines.
The Ambassadors will face the Straits Shooters, a team of local players and coaches, at the Cheboygan High School gym. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.
Tickets, which are available at the door, are $10 for adults and $5 for high school students and under.
Tickets are available in advance at any Citizen's National Bank branch, any member of the Historical Society of Cheboygan County and the Mackinaw Area Historical Society or by calling Jean (231-436-5207) or Patti (231-627-8042).
R-E to publish area volleyball leaders
TRAVERSE CITY -- The Record-Eagle will begin publishing statistical leaders for area volleyball players.
Season leaders in kills per game, kill efficiency, assists per game, blocks per game, digs per game and aces per game will run in Tuesday's paper.
Coaches are asked to fax in statistics by noon on Monday to (231) 946-8632.
YMCA basketball registration starts
TRAVERSE CITY -- Registration for the YMCA men's winter basketball league is under way.
Leagues are offered for different levels of competition.
Games are played Sunday through Thursday evenings at Traverse City area gymnasiums.
A regular season is played followed by an end of season tournament.
Games begin the week of Oct. 26 and run through March of 2009.
A 'church' league is also offered.

Antrim Ski Academy registration open
MANCELONA -- Registration has begun for the Antrim Ski Academy (ASA) winter 2008-09 programs. This season's programs include ski instruction, snowboard instruction and ski race training.
Programs begin with the annual ski swap and informational meetings on Nov. 29.
Members enrolling in the 10-week race program will begin the last week of December with all other on-snow training starting in January.
All ASA sessions will be held at Schuss Mountain. Learn to ski programs will be Tuesday and Wednesday with snowboard programs on Tuesday.
The race group will train at Schuss Tuesday through Thursday.
New this season will be a six-week program for 4-6 year olds.
