September 21, 2008 12:00 am Traverse City West went 3-2 in the Kalamazoo Central Invitational. The Titans finished 2-0 in the regular pool, beating Wyoming Park (21-8, 21-19) and Kalamazoo Central (22-20, 21-19). That advanced West to the top power pool where the Titans lost to Flushing (12-21, 17-21) and beat Frasier (21-12, 17-21, 15-6). Then in single-elimination play, West fell to Grand Ledge (23-25, 25-15, 12-15). The Titans were paced by Lydia Lovejoy (27 digs, 11 kills, 81 assists, nine aces), Emily Ellenson (19 digs, 32 kills), Ellen Patenaude (10 digs, 18 kills), Jess Benson (eight kills), Kelly Flynn (nine digs, eight kills), Courtney Sexton (19 digs, five aces) and Megan Montgomery (14 digs, six aces). Harbor Light claims championship Harbor Light defeated Charlevoix 21-18, 21-19 to win the Charlevoix Invitational. The Rayders (20-8-9) had reached the title game by beating East Jordan 21-4, 21-11 in the semifinals. In pool play, Charlevoix split with East Jordan (19-21, 21-11), then beat Elk Rapids (21-16, 21-10), Rudyard (21-16, 21-16) and Harbor Light (21-18, 21-18), split with St. Francis (21-17, 19-21), then beat Inland Lakes (21-16, 21-11). The Rayders were led by Tammy Potter (80 kills, 12 blocks, 36 digs), Shauna Spencley (47 kills, 16 aces), Taylor Storm (71 digs) and Jenna Way (114 assists). Spencley and Way were on the all-tournament team. TC St. Francis lost 19-21, 21-12, 15-8 in the semifinals to Harbor Light Christian. In pool play the Gladiators beat Inland Lakes (21-10, 21-17), East Jordan (23-22, 21-15), Elk Rapids (21-17, 21-16) and Rudyard (21-11, 21-18) before splitting with Charlevoix (17-21, 21-19) and Harbor Light (21-18, 17-21). Jamie Colburn had 14 digs, two blocks and nine kills and Emily Buckel four digs, one block, 11 aces, 79 assists and seven kills for the Gladiators (9-9-2). Bailey Rae (six digs, seven blocks, 18 kills), Lyndsay LaCourse (13 blocks, eight aces, 13 kills), Jamie Bott (three digs, two blocks, 13 aces, 20 kills) and Katie Miller (seven digs, five blocks, six aces, 15 kills) also played key roles for St. Francis. Sabres finish 2-1 at Essexville-Garber Traverse City Christian, the only Class D team in the field, finished 2-1 in the Essexville-Garber Invitational. The Sabres won their pool by beating Millington (25-20, 18-25, 25-21) and Bay City John Glenn (23-25, 25-23, 25-18). Christian was then seeded fourth for afternoon play and lost in a rematch with John Glenn (25-19, 8-25, 11-15). Pacing the Sabres (21-3) were Lindsay Kostrzewa (37 kills, 12 blocks, 19 digs), Jenna Finney (12 kills, 20 digs, four aces), Joni Yahr (14 kills, four blocks, 14 digs) and Kara Romstadt (65 assists, 17 digs). Kingsley outlasts Mason County Eastern for title Kingsley topped Mason County Eastern 25-17, 19-25, 15-13 to win the Benzie Central Invitational. The Stags topped Buckley (25-13, 25-13) and Forest Area (25-23, 25-17) in pool play before downing the Bears (25-14, 25-4) again in the semifinals. Hannah Bach had 25 kills, 18 aces, 10 blocks and six digs to pace Kingsley (22-2-1). Sam Zubalik added 19 kills, eight aces, 15 digs and two blocks while Chelsea Edgcombe had 14 kills, 21 digs and was 18 for 20 serving with six aces. Also contributing were Mary Kaleita (68 assists, 28 for 28, three aces, seven digs), Hilary Hoeflin (29 digs, 43 for 48, 10 aces) and Katie Nickerson (18 for 19, 15 digs). Forest Area reached the semifinals before falling 25-19, 19-25, 16-14 to Mason County Eastern. The Warriors opened with a win against Buckley (25-13, 21-25, 15-6) and a loss to Kingsley before beating Northport (25-18, 25-13) in the quarterfinals. Mae Johnson had 24 kills and Chelsea Strine was 48 for 49 serving with 24 digs for Forest Area (15-11-2). Ashley Czuk added 10 kills, Megan Monks 19 kills and nine blocks, Lauren Kneer 26 digs, Kate Hodges 38 assists and Allie Garrett 21 assists. Glen Lake battles foes at Big Rapids Invitational Glen Lake lost all four of its matches at the Big Rapids Invitational. The Lakers opened with a 25-10, 26-27, 15-9 loss to Sparta. Glen Lake then fell to Big Rapids (25-21, 25-16), Grant (25-16, 25-20) and Ludington (25-14, 25-8). Dani Frost had 13 kills, 22 digs, two blocks and three aces for the Lakers (2-22). Krissy Bush added seven kills and 15 digs and Casey Hawkins four kills, 10 digs, eight aces and 24 assists.
