TRAVERSE CITY -- Passing and serving helped propel Traverse City West to its first Big North Conference volleyball victory of the season, a 25-13, 25-8, 25-17 win over Gaylord on Wednesday night.
"We had some really good runs with our serving," West coach Lisa Placek said. "After we got our nerves out a little bit, we passed well and it let Lydia (Lovejoy) run our offense more efficiently."
Lovejoy finished with 22 assists to go along with two aces for the Titans (1-1, 2-5).
Emily Ellison had five kills and four digs and Gaby Muller seven kills, four aces and four digs. Megan Montgomery contributed seven aces and Ellen Patenaude added three kills, two digs and two aces.
The West JV posted a 25-12, 25-8, 19-25 win. Hannah Pohlman had six kills, Ashley Parent five kills and Tina Green 14 assists. Sarah VanDrie had nine aces and served 10 straight points.

Petoskey 1
TC Central improved to 2-0 in the Big North Conference by beating Petoskey 20-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-11.
Laura Spencer had 13 blocks, 11 digs and 12 kills and Meredith Aja nine kills, eight blocks and nine digs for the Trojans (11-2).
Carly Beers added seven blocks and 35 assists, Laura Dwyer 10 blocks and Rachel Stieger 10 kills.
Kingsley takes wins over Leland and Pine River
Kingsley defeated Leland 25-16, 25-13, 25-22 in its Northwest Conference opener.
The Stags also downed Pine River 25-16, 25-22 to improve to 9-2-1 overall.
Kingsley was led by Sam Zubalik (15 kills, 18 of 20 serving with two aces, four blocks), Hannah Bach (14 kills, three blocks), Chelsea Edgcombe (eight kills, three aces, 17 digs), Mary Kaleita (21 of 22 serving, 39 assists), Hilary Hoeflin and Katie Nickerson.
Frankfort tops Lakers in Northwest opener
Frankfort swept Glen Lake 25-10, 25-18, 25-17 in a Northwest Conference opener.
Glen Lake also dropped a 25-14, 15-13 match to Mason County Eastern.
The Lakers (0-1, 1-9) were paced by Krissy Bush (four kills, nine digs) and Casey Hawkins (two kills, two blocks, two aces, five assists).

Mesick 1
Suttons Bay held off Mesick for a 25-22, 20-25, 25-22, 25-13 Northwest Conference win.
The Norse (1-0, 5-2-4) were led by Hildi Forton (17 of 18 serving with two aces, 16 assists, two kills, five digs), Kelli Ruthkowski (18 of 19 serving with five aces, 11 digs), Biri Luna (17 of 18 serving with three aces, 10 kills, four digs), Angela Patterson (10 of 10 serving with one ace, four kills, two blocks, six digs) and Kyrstyn Thornton (six kills, two blocks, two digs).
Trisha Stagg had 39 assists and four digs for Mesick in its season opener. Also contributing were Erica Hamilton (four kills, seven digs), Nicole Hindman (six aces, three blocks, 12 kills), Shelby Mack (three blocks, four kills, 10 digs) and Jenna Maksymowski (two kills, two aces, 21 digs).

Charlevoix opens LMC with pair of victories
Charlevoix began Lake Michigan Conference play by beating TC St. Francis (25-23, 20-25, 25-13, 25-23) and Grayling (25-18, 25-19, 25-13).
Tammy Potter had 32 kills to lead Charlevoix (5-3-7). Jenna Way added 39 assists and 15 digs and Taylor Storm 26 digs and six aces.
