Football Roundup: Marion knocks off Frankfort

MARION -- Frankfort hadn't lost a season opener since 1998, but Marion ended the run Thursday with a 13-8 non-conference victory over the Panthers.

The Eagles scored twice in the first half, including a 37-yard jump ball to the corner of the endzone in the closing seconds before the break.

Frankfort held Marion to five yards of offense in the second half, but could only manage one score. Kyle Brouillet scored on a 14-yard run in the third quarter and also added the two-point conversion.

Brouillet had 16 carries for 70 yards to lead the offense. Max Banktson had 14 tackles on defense while Chris Tondu added 10 tackles.

Elk Rapids 41
Mancelona 8

Tyler Smith ran for 121 yards on eight carries and scored three touchdowns in Elk Rapids 41-8 win over Mancelona.

Smith stepped in for signal-caller Derek Sentieri, who left the game with an injury in the second quarter.

Sentieri was 2-for-2 passing for 83 yards and a pair of touchdowns before the injury. Sentieri hit Charlie Hoch for scores of 34 and 49 yards.

Smith scored on runs of 57, 4 and 15 yards and Alex Bethke added an 8-yard run. Bethke ran for 83 yards on 11 attempts.

Royal Oak Shrine 20
Kingsley 12

Royal Oak Shrine returned an interception for a touchdown with 30 seconds left to seal a 20-12 win over Kingsley.

The pick helped spoil the debut of new coach Jason Leonard.

Maurice Sims ran for 156 yards on 13 carries, including a 54-yard TD run in the first quarter that put the Stags on top.

Tommy Sedlacek scored on a 36-yard pass from Justin Mueller in the fourth quarter to draw Kingsley within two points at 14-12.

Boyne City 43
McBain 14

Drew Nohel returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, and Boyne City took off from there.

The Ramblers defeated McBain 43-14.

Trever Kruzell scored the first of three touchdowns on a 45-yard run for a 14-0 lead after a quarter.

Kruzell ended up with 105 yards rushing on 10 carries and a team-high 13 tackles.

Nohel had 60 rush yards and two more scores, Steven Robinson ran for 68 yards and Nick Young threw a 10-yard TD pass to Dalton Looze.

Glen Lake 27
East Jordan 19

Nate Sneed threw for 141 yards and two scores to lead Glen Lake to a season-opening victory over East Jordan.

Sneed hit Kyle Cornell and Elliott Clark for touchdown passes.

Joey Czapek added 89 rushing yards and a touchdown for the Lakers.

Manton 27
Kalkaska 20

Ray Seaberg scored on a one-yard run in the third quarter to give Manton a 27-20 win over Kalkaska.

Ben Denomme, who had a team-high 75 yards on the ground, scored from 13 and six yards out for Manton. Jasper Woodcock also tossed a five-yard touchdown pass to Cody Emery. Woodcock, who also picked off two passes, kicked three extra points.

For Kalksaka, Jake Royston dashed 69 yards for a touchdown while Kevin Zattlin raced 85 and 58 yards for scores. Zattlin finished with 171 yards rushing, Royston 87.

Grayling 46
Roscommon 13

Jimmy Osga completed 18 of 36 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns as Grayling defeated Roscommon 46-13.

Osga hit Tyler Steffey from 19 yards out, Geo Bindschatel from 13 and Cody Myers from 10. Osga also scored on a five-yard run. He finished with 42 yards on the ground. Steffey had eight catches for 150 yards. Bindschatel and Tyler Hansen also had TD runs for the Vikings.

Comstock Park 41
Benzie Central 7

Sean Jackson scored three touchdowns as Comstock Park defeated Benzie Central 41-7.

Jason Tomaszewski rushed for 67 yards and a TD for Benzie. Josh Corey converted after Tomaszewski's four-yard score.

Bay City John Glenn 38
Cadillac 20

Bay City John Glenn opened the season with a 38-20 win over Cadillac.

Tyler Ellsworth led Cadillac with 102 yards rushing, while Mike Weeks added three catches for 54 yards and scored on a 24-yard run.

Ried Normal led the Viking defense with 11 tackles and Connor Parcell and Steve Reddy each had interceptions. Joey Youngman threw for 109 yards for Cadillac.

Onekama 62
BR Crossroads 0

Joerdan Doldos rushed for 135 yards and three touchdowns as Onekama beat Big Rapids Crossroads 62-0 in a Mid-State Conference North Division game.

Zach Teachout added 111 yards and a touchdown on the ground while his brother Travis rushed for 91 yards and three touchdowns.

St. Francis JV 32
Suttons Bay JV 8

Dylan Seybert threw two touchdown passes and Will Grombala scored on two long runs as the St. Francis JV beat Suttons Bay 32-8.

Seybert connected with Justin Olm from a yard out and with Riley Bullough from 29 yards. Olm kicked the two extra points.

After Tyler Hansen tallied on a one-yard run to make it 20-0 at half, Grombala took over. He raced in from 57 and 78 yards in the second half.

Suttons Bay scored in the fourth quarter on Clay Joupperi's one-yard run. David Horton passed to Craig Send for the two-point conversion.
