Garber advances at Junior State Am

EAST LANSING -- Former Petoskey High School golfer Joey Garber qualified for the second day of the 30th Michigan Junior State Amateur at Forest Akers West in East Lansing.

Garber had rounds of 73 and 69 on Monday to qualify for today's third round. Garber trails only Matt Paterini of Saline (140) and Chris Mory of Haslett (141).

Three other area golfers failed to advance to the third round. The field was cut to the low 30 golfers for today's third round and the low 16 advance to match play.

The two-round cut was at 151. Traverse City's Tony Casciano shot a 157 (81-76), Suttons Bay's Charlie Olson a 165 (79-86) and Traverse City's Patrick Colburn a 167 (88-79).
