July 28, 2008 12:00 am TRAVERSE CITY -- Nearly 100 singles and 50 doubles teams participated in the North Michigan Jr. Tennis Open this weekend. In the boys' 18-year-old division, Aaron Mayes from Elk Rapids beat Traverse City's Fisher Sutherland 6-4, 6-1. Kevin Hodges of Plymouth was the 16-year-old champ with a 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 win over Cadillac's Pat O'Hagan. Max Lundmark from TC beat Sam Dart from Ft. Wayne, Ind., 1-6, 6-3, 12-10 in the 14-year-old final and Novi's Conor Johnston took the 12-year-old title with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Augusta's Andrew Klein. John Merrill of Traverse City won the 10-year-old round robin over runner-up Hayden Drury from Petoskey. Lauren Pickrel, of Kettering, Ohio, was beat Harbor Springs' Kali Phillips 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 in the girls' 18-year-old final while Caitlin Ludlow from Newberry was the 16-year-old champ with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Kaitlin Pickrel. Kristine Koeze, of Caledonia, took the 14-year-old crown with a 2-6, 6-2, 10-0 win over Traverse City's Kelly Milliken while Calla Ramont of East Lansing beat Omena's Kaitlin Lutz 6-4, 7-5 for the 12-year-old title. Alixil Merrill from Traverse City won the 10-year-old round robin over Paige Cooley from Traverse City. Boys doubles had champions in 18-year-olds Doug Burke (Traverse City) and Mayes, 16-year-olds Josh Feister (Cadillac) and O'Hagan, 14-year-olds Jack Hamaty (Birmingham) and Peter Pappas (Traverse City) and 12-year-olds Ben Orwarn (Portage) and Klein. Girls doubles champs included Lauren and Kaitlin Pickrel, as well as Cooley an Merrill.
