Water Black Bear race set for Sunday

GRAYLING -- The Avita Water Black Bear Bicycle Tour will once again be held in conjunction with the Au Sable River Canoe Marathon this weekend.

At 8 a.m. Sunday, 11 hours after the start of the canoe race, riders will take off in downtown Grayling on a 100 mile route through the AuSable River Valley following the canoes to Oscoda. The event is not a race, but riders are timed so they can have an official indication of how long it took them to cover the route.

Guyones prevails in state junior event

HARBOR SPRINGS -- Traverse City's Chelsea Guoynes won her age group at the Michigan PGA Junior Tour stop at the Boyne Highland's Heather course.

Guoynes won the girls 13-15 crown. She shot rounds of 77 and 72 to win the two-day event, which concluded on Thursday.

Final Mackinac race results announced

MACKINAC ISLAND -- The final results of the annual yacht race from Chicago's Navy Pier to Mackinac Island have been announced.

A total of 395 boats completed the 333-mile race; 44 others retired.

The Velero VII won the Mackinac Trophy division with a corrected time of 47 hours, 49 minutes. The Stripes won the Mackinac Cup division with a corrected time of 48 hours, 17 minutes. Gamera won the multihull division for a third straight year, posting a corrected time of 51 hours, 1 minute.
