AURORA, Colo. -- Traverse City Central alum Randy Hutchison saw his run come to an end Friday at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.
The Michigan State Senior was eliminated by Georgia native Cason Hammock, 2-up in the quarterfinals.
Hammock birdied the first hole of the quarterfinal for the lead and held the advantage until Hutchison got a birdie on the par-4 ninth to put the match all square at the turn.
Hutchison carded another birdie on 10 to take his first lead of the round. It held through the next four holes until Hammock put the match at all-square after a birdie on the par-5 15th.
With two holes to go and the match knotted up, Hammock strung together a pair of birdies while Hutchison bogeyed the final two holes to decide the match.
Hutchison stuck around to caddy for MSU teammate Jack Newman, who eliminated Hammock, 3-1.
Newman will meet California's John Chin for the championship Saturday. The match will be played over 36 holes.
