Fields to receive contest upgrades
GAYLORD -- The seven Little League fields at Gaylord's Hutchinson Field Complex will receive $5,000 in improvements later this year as one of five nationwide winners in the fifth annual Ace Hardware/Little League Fields for the Future contest.
Little League organizations throughout the country nominated fields in need of a makeover.
In May, contest officials selected a winning field from each of Little League's five regions of the nation. Winners were Seattle; Santa Fe, N.M.; Dunnellon, Fla.; Baltimore and Gaylord.
Winning Little League organizations will receive $2,500 in products from Ace Hardware/Gaylord Feed and Grain, as well as $2,500 in Ace gift cards and one day's work from Ace's "Helpful Hardware Man" Lou Manfredini.
Work in Gaylord is scheduled for Aug. 27 along with a community work-bee to improve the fields.
Bellaire rider picks up multiple ribbons
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Taylor White of Bellaire picked up multiple blue ribbons in the Classic PLeasure Saddle division at the 2008 Gold Cup compeition in Springield, Ohio June 17-21.
White, 13, won blue ribbions in saddle seat equition and classic pleasure saddle in her division. She was also fourth in the classic pleasure saddle championship.
Sutherlands take home tennis title
GLEN ARBOR -- The father and son combination of Mike and Fischer Sutherland beat Bob Sutherland and John Bald 6-4, 7-5 to win the Glen Arbor Championship at the annual Glen Arbor Tennis Tournament last weekend.
Steve Polikoff and Javin Ramont won the consolation title with a 10-7 victory over Tim and Demetrios Buck.
Tina Blackman and Jason Walsh knocked off defending champions Mark and Molly Midgley 6-1, 6-4 to capture the mixed doubles championship. Cindy Daniel and Rich Budinger won the consolation with a 10-8 victory over Steve and Cynthia Polikoff.
Mary Voet and Julie Troutman claimed the women's doubles title over Jackie and Kim Olson.
John Cyvic and John Henry won the 'Over-50' men's tournament.
