Roundup: Eagles sweep Leland in softball

LAKE LEELANAU -- Lake Leelanau St. Mary's took two different routes to two non-conference softball wins on Friday.

The Eagles won the opener 2-1 and took the nightcap in four innings, 15-0.

Tiffany Moore accounted for the tying run in the opener with a fifth inning home run. Emily Schaub led off the sixth inning with a triple and scored on Mary Lingaur's single.

Moore finished with two hits while Allison Korson added a double.

Susan Herman struck out 14 and allowed just one hit, a RBI single by Haley VerSnyder.

Herman was one error away from a perfect game in the nightcap. She struck out four.

Schaub had a single, double and four RBIs. Herman chipped in with three hits and Lingaur two.

MORE SOFTBALL

Bellaire 13 11
Alba 4 1

Logan Edgecomb allowed five hits and struck out a total of 18 batters as Bellaire swept Alba, 13-4 and 11-1.

Amanda Shawl had two hits and three RBIs in the opener while Edgecomb added two inside-the-park home runs, a triple and four RBIs. Montana Bartsch had three hits and a RBI, Courtney Lang two hits and Kara Liverance two RBIs.

Bartsch drove in two runs and Lang had two hits in the nightcap for Bellaire (26-7).

Frankfort 4 12
Buckley 3 3

Frankfort scored two runs in the sixth inning to pull out a 4-3 win over Buckley.

Mindy Smith tied the contest with a solo homer and Emily Gray won it with a RBI single. Laney Eubank had three hits for Frankfort (23-6-1, 12-1-1 Northwest Conference).

Eubank had three hits, including a two-run homer, as the Panthers won the nightcap 12-3.

Kristy Boomer had two doubles and Kelly Rouse two hits.

Kayla Nye and Allison Webber each struck out six.

BASEBALL

Frankfort 10 8
Buckley 0 1

Devin Gokey's bases-loaded triple in the third inning broke open the nightcap Frankfort would go on to win 8-1 en route to a sweep of Buckley.

Max Banktson gave up just four hits -- one of which was a leadoff home run to Josh Ledford -- and struck out five in five innings for the win. He also had two hits of his own.

Banktson had plenty of support from Wade Luxford (3-for-3), Alex Stieve (2-for-2), Tyler Stratton (home run) and Gokey (three RBIs).

Gokey had two more hits in the 10-0 opener, as Kyle Zimmerman struck out nine and was 2-for-3 with his third homer.

Nick Tondu was 2-for-3 for the Panthers (25-3, 12-2 Northwest).

LL St. Mary's 15 16
Leland 0 1

Matt Pasch had more hits than he gave up as Lake Leelanau St. Mary's swept Leland 15-0 and 16-1.

Pasch allowed just two hits and struck out four in the opener. He knocked out two hits in each end of the twinbill for St. Mary's (21-5).

Kienan Sutton, David Pasch, David O'Connor and Ryan Couterier each had two hits in the opener.

Adam Peplinski fanned five and surrendered only two singles in the nightcap. He was supported by Ray Platts (two-run homer), Jacon Palmondon (two hits, triple, three RBIs) and two hits apiece from Chase Bonhag, Matt Pasch and O'Connor.

Manton 10 17
Forest Area 0 4

Manton took a pair of non-conference baseball games from Forest Area, 10-0 and 17-4.

Victor Woodhams and Tyler Denike had two hits in game two for Forest Area (4-24). Woodhams scored three runs while Alex Kellogg and Denike had doubles.

SOCCER

TC Central 3
Ludington 0

Traverse City Central ended the regular season with a 3-0 win over Ludington in which the Trojans outshot the Orioles 21-1.

Katie Clayton, Emily Carefoot and Abby Boursaw scored goals for Central (13-4-2, 9-0-1 BNC), and Caraefoot, Maggie Rogers and Sara Lang notched assists.

Central's JV Black team (9-7-3) tied Ludington 0-0 and the JV Gold dropped a 3-0 decision to the Charlevoix JV.

TC West 2
Petoskey 2

Traverse City West battled Big North Conference runner-up Petoskey to a 2-2 deadlock in the league finale for both teams.

Becca Sage and Maddisen Coil scored goals for the Titans (5-12-2, 3-6-1 BNC). Sage and Grace Guba added assists.

Gina Gero scored for Petkoskey (9-5-4, 5-3-2).
