Team Hagerty riders take first and third

WEST BRANCH -- The Hagerty men's cycling team posted a first and a third at the West Branch training race on Saturday.

Todd Vigland took first in the 68-mile course. Tim Barrons was third.

Jeff Adamcik of Tri-City Cyclists was second while Eric Muehl of Cyclefit was fourth.

YMCA summer hoops registration

TRAVERSE CITY -- Registration is under way for the YMCA summer men's basketball league.

Two divisions are offered for different levels of competition.

Play begins the week of June 8 and most games will be played at the St. Francis gymnasium on Sunday and Thursday evenings.

A round-robin league schedule will be played, followed by an end of season tournament. Registration deadline is May 31.

Girls on the Run 5K slated for May 23

SUTTONS BAY -- Girls on the Run of Leelanau, Grand Traverse, Benzie and Antrim counties will be holding their final 5K run on May 23, beginning at 6 p.m.

The run will be on the Bayshore Marathon course.

Approximately 700 girls in grades 3-8 from 22 different schools in the four-county region will complete their six-week Girls on the Run program with the event.

Former TC resident signs national letter

ADRIAN -- Jake Agruda, a senior at Adrian Madison High School, signed a letter of intent to play golf for Siena Heights in the fall.

Agruda originally grew up in Traverse City.

Finch claims a silver in sled-dog racing

WILLIAMSBURG -- Ryan Finch of Williamsburg was the International Sled Dog Racing Association's silver winner in his division.

Finch competed in the adult sled 4-dog speed class.

Clash on the Clay back in Glen Arbor

GLEN ARBOR -- Clash on the Clay, a fundraiser for the Glen Lake varsity tennis teams, will be held on Saturday, May 31 at the Homstead Resort in Glen Arbor.

The tournament will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a lunch break from noon to 12:30 p.m.

The round-robin event will be held on five clay courts. Medals will be awarded to the top three doubles teams.

Cost is $75 per team which includes tennis balls, lunch, and drinks. Checks should be made payable to Glen Lake School and sent along with the entrance form to: David Grams 1735 E. Front St., Traverse City, MI 49686.

Elmbrook to hold introduction, clinic

TRAVERSE CITY -- Elmbook Golf Course in Traverse City will hold a free introduction and trick shot clinic Friday and Sunday with golf professional Chuck Deedman.

Clinic times are at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Deedman will provide tips and information on golf swings, as well as demonstrating some fun and challenging trick shots.
