Will Lynch receives 2008 Norris Award
EAST LANSING -- Will Lynch of Honor received the Michigan High School Athletic Association's Vern L. Norris Award for 2008.
The Norris Award is presented annually to a veteran official who has been active in a local officials association, mentored other officials, and has been involved in officials' education.
The award is named for Norris, executive director of the MHSAA from 1978-86. Lynch was presented the award at the MHSAA's 29th annual Officials' Awards and Alumni Banquet on May 10.
Lynch is in his 41st year as a registered official in basketball and football. He was a teacher and coach at Benzie Central for 30 years and his boys basketball team reached the Class C championship game.
Wings camp tickets on sale May 20-21
TRAVERSE CITY -- Tickets to the 11th annual Detroit Red Wings training camp in Traverse City will go on sale May 20-21 at Centre ICE Arena.
Tickets will be on sale from 5-9 p.m. on May 20 and 5-7 p.m. on May 21.
Cost is $15 for workouts and scrimmages beginning at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20 and Sunday, Sept. 21. Tickets to the 6 p.m. gold medal game on Sept. 22 are $20 with the annual Red & White Game on Sept. 23 selling for $25.
All training camp tickets are reserved seats.
Preceding the Red Wings training camp is the annual NHL Prospects Tournament. The Red Wings follow the prospects into town, kicking off the camp with the Detroit Red Wings Training Camp Golf Classic on Friday, Sept. 19 at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa.

Bay Meadows golf leagues now forming
TRAVERSE CITY -- Bay Meadows Golf Course is establishing leagues for men, women and couples this season and is looking for interested participants.
Golfers can form their own league or join an existing group. A ladies league is scheduled for Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. Many junior camps, clinics and spring tune-up classes are also available.

Muskegon getting year-round luge track
MUSKEGON -- Muskegon is getting one of the first year-round luge tracks in North America.
The 328-foot-long wheeled-luge track is part of a large package of improvements planned for the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex at Muskegon State Park.
The improvements are aimed at increasing recreation opportunities for people with disabilities.
Benzie softball league forming
BENZONIA -- A Benzie area 55-over men's softball league will begin play Thursday, June 5.
