Soccer Roundup: Central, West post victories

Trojans hold on to first place with Cadillac shutout

TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse City Central kept a hold of first place in the Big North Conference with a 3-0 shutout of Cadillac.

Emily Carefoot had a goal and an assist to lead the Trojans (8-3-2, 5-0-1). Cadillac falls to 7-5-1, 2-4-1.

Emma Berger and Jessica Lang also scored goals for Central and Sara Lang and Amanda Aldrich had assists.

Jen Pierick and Miki Smith split time in net, with each making two saves as Central enjoyed a 16-4 advantage in shots on goal.

The Trojans travel to Alpena on Tuesday.

Cadillac won the JV game 3-1. Brianna Porter had a goal for Central (3-4), assisted by Sarah Bevelhymer.

Alpena 1

Kelly Wendels had a goal and an assist to lead Traverse City West to a 3-1 Big North Conference victory over Alpena.

Maddisen Coil and Becca Sage added scored for the Titans (3-10-1, 2-3 BNC) and Alison Shrift had an assist.

Emmy Entz made four saves in net for the win.

The game was tied 0-0 at halftime before West struck for all three of its goals in a 12-minute span. The Titans host Mount Pleasant on Monday.

Charlevoix 8
Grayling 0

Charlevoix took over sole possession of first in the Lake Michigan Conference with an 8-0 win over Grayling.

Ariel Ramsey's three goals led the Rayders (10-2, 9-1). Becca Madison, KC McCary, Olivia Catt, Emily Foster and Abbey Barnes added solo goals. Madison Way chipped in two assists. Tammy Potter was in goal.

Charlevoix travels to Kalkaska on Monday.

Elk Rapids 1
TC Liberty 0

Freshman Molly Starr's goal in the second overtime lifted Elk Rapids to a 1-0 win over the TC Liberty.

Cat Orschel assisted on the goal.

Olivia Morrison, playing her first game in goal, had the shutout for the Elks (8-3-2, 8-2), who handed the Liberty their second league loss.

Elk Rapids travels to Harbor Springs on Monday.

East Jordan 1
Kalkaska 0

Whitney Kraemer scored halfway through the first half to lift East Jordan to a 1-0 victory over Kalkaska.

Amanda Zipp assisted on the lone goal by East Jordan (3-10).

Maribeth Poindexter made 19 saves in net to earn the shutout.

The Red Devils travel to Grayling on Tuesday.

Burt Lake NMCA 3
Gladwin 0

Lauren Gall had a goal and an assist as Burt Lake Northern Michigan Christgian Academy shut out Gladwin, 3-0.

Bethany Chatfield made five saves in goal for Burt Lake (10-2, 6-2 Northern Michigan Soccer League).

Alyssa Oram and Kari Kennedy also had goals. Anika Vinz had an assist.
