May 10, 2008 04:00 am TRAVERSE CITY -- Josh Pilarski pitched two-hit ball over five innings as Traverse City Central blanked Charlevoix 10-0 in the opener of a non-conference twinbill. The Trojans (20-4) took the nightcap 7-4. Kevin Krantz started and fired three shutout innings to gain the win. He struck out six. Casey Lundy's two hits sparked the Trojan attack. Cliff Jones powered Charlevoix with three hits and two RBIs. Frankfort 15 16 Alex Stieve pitched a four-inning perfect game as Frankfort downed Bear Lake 15-0 in the opener of a doubleheader. Stieve struck out eight. Wade Luxford and Kyle Zimmerman paced the Panthers with three hits. Tyler Stratton added two. Devin Gokey drove in four runs and Zimmerman three. Chris Tondo hurled the Panthers (13-3) to a 16-0 win in the nightcap. Stratton belted two two-run homers. Stieve went 3-for-3 with a home run. Nick Tondo and Zimmerman chipped in two hits. Luxford ended the game with a three-run homer. Elk Rapids 12 5 Elk Rapids improved to 14-6 with 12-3 and 5-3 non-conference wins over Glen Lake. Peter Shugart earned the win in the opener. Zac Dreffs collected three hits for the Elks and Ian Sliger and Brendan Tully two. Dreffs drove in two runs. Josh Jacklin and Michael Salamino had two hits apiece for the Lakers. Salamino drove in two runs. Theo Stasch picked up the win in the nightcap. Dreffs and Shugart each had two hits and an RBI for the Elks. KC Novak, Adam Scarbrough and Jacklin led Glen Lake with two hits. Mancelona 8 7 Greg Blanco was the winning pitcher in the opener and picked up the save in the nightcap as Mancelona swept Pellston 8-0 and 7-4 in a Ski Valley Conference twinbill. Blanco tossed a three-hitter and struck out nine in game one. Nick Bouchard had two hits and a RBI and Kodi Balhorn two hits for Manelona (14-3, 12-2 SVC). Blanco got the save in relief of Tony Derrer in the nightcap. Balhorn had two hits (triple) and three RBIs. LL St. Mary's 8 5 Kienan Sutton aided in the defeat of Suttons Bay. Sutton drove in four runs with four hits as Lake Leelanau St. Mary's won 8-1 and 5-2. Ray Platts tossed a one-hitter in the opener, striking out five. Jacob Plamondon, David Pasch and Sutton each had two hits. Palmondon and Sutton drove in two runs each. Adam Pelinski was the winner in the nightcap, giving up only five singles. Pasch and Sutton again had two hits each, with Pasch driving in three runs and Sutton two. Sutton had a pair of doubles on the night. Ryan Manning led the Norse with two hits. St. Mary's (12-4, 2-0 Cherryland) will play four game son Saturday. The Eagles travel to Traverse City Christian for a 10:30 doubleheader and will stay in TC for a make-up twinbill against Leelanau School at 3 p.m. Suttons Bay (10-9) hosts Benzie Central tonight. Bellaire 7 11 Russell Rodriguez and Taylor Swartz led Bellaire to a 7-5 and 11-3 sweep of Forest Area. Rodriguez scored two runs int he opener and Swartz added three hits in the nightcap. Justin Gordon was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs for the Warriors in the lidlifter and Colin Park drove in a par of runs in the second contest. Gaylord St. Mary 2 8 Gaylord St. Mary scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to top Inland Lakes 8-7 and salvage a split with the Bulldogs. Will Tomaski scored the winning run and had two hits and a walk in the nightcap. Phil Spyhalski added two more hits and two runs and Austin Lawnichak picked up the win in relief. Inland Lakes had come back with four runs in the fifth after St. Mary took a 6-2 lead an inning into the game. Blake Beebe and Jake Osier had two hits each for the Bulldogs. Osier threw a three-hitter in the opener and Steve Kolb homered and tripled with three RBIs. Matt Foster had a double for the Snowbirds (6-7, 4-7 Ski Valley), who travel to East Jordan on Friday and complete a rained-out game with Pellston on Saturday. Manton 17 21 Keith Valkner tossed a three-inning no-hitter as Manton blanked TC Christian, 17-0. Cody Emery had four RBIs and a triple for Manton. TC Christian (0-17-1) lost 21-4 in the nightcap. Max Alekseyenko had two hits and a RBI and Jon Rudolph a RBI single for TC Christian. SOFTBALL Kalkaska 2 3 Jennifer Spann and Marissa Taylor limited TC West to four hits as Kalkaska swept a doubleheader from the Titans, 2-1 and 3-0. Spann tossed a one-hitter and struck out seven in the nightcap. The lone hit off Spann by West (10-16) was a seventh-inning double by Melissa Hubbard. Kara Ponstein had a RBI double, Janelle Slater a run-scoring single and Kaiti Jones a double for Kalkaska (20-3). Taylor scattered three hits and struck out eight in game one. The Blazers pulled out the win with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth. Ponstein and Slater had two hits and Taylor a RBI single for Kalkaska. Charlevoix 10 6 Desi Faust tossed a five-hit shutout and helped her own cause with three hits as Charlevoix shut out TC Central, 6-0. Faust struck out four and had a triple while Leah Kelly had a solo home run for the Rayders (12-6). Hannah Hybl, Sara Potter and Kelly each had two hits. Winning pitcher Amber Hoffman had three hits at the plate as Charlevoix won game one, 10-8. Hybl, Potter and Faust had two hits. LL St. Mary's 7 10 Susan Herman was close to perfect. Herman pitched a no-hitter in the opener, striking out 14, as Lake Leelanau St. Mary beat Suttons Bay 7-0. Herman did not allow a walk in the six-inning contest. Anne Kuznicki lked St. Mary's at the plate with a single and double. Herman tossed a one-hitter in the 10-0 nightcap. She struck out 10 and walked one in the five-inning game. Allison Korson, Ashley Herman and Mary Lingaur pounded out two hits for the Eagles (12-6). Glen Lake 7 2 Glen Lake rallied from a 5-0 deficit to edge Elk Rapids 7-6 in the opener of a non-conference doubleheader. The Lakers scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Rachel Brzezinski and winning pitcher Cori Kahler drove in two runs apiece for the Lakers. Christine Strudgeon, Jessica Jennings, Kacey Anderson and Stephanie Niepoth had two hits apiece for the Elks (8-14). Elk Rapids won the nightcap 6-2 behind the three-hit pitching of Courtney Isenhart. Two of those hits belonged to Katie Drzewiecki. Jennings, Tiffany Goltz and Becky Send led the Elks with two hits. Frankfort 10 16 Kayla Nye tossed a no-hitter as Frankfort completed a shutout sweep of Bear Lake with a 16-0 victory in game two of a doubleheader. Laney Eubank had three hits, one of which was a three-run homer. Allison Webber and Nye added two hits with Kayla Jensen and Emily Gray picking up doubles for Frankfort (10-3-1). Webber tossed a one-hitter and struck out 11 in the opener. Mindy Smith had two hits and Allison Popp a double. Bellaire 10 10 Logan Edgecomb struck out 11 in each game and allowed one hit in each as Bellaire swept Forest Area by identical 10-0 scores. Montana Bartsch had a big game at the plate in the nightcap for Bellaire (20-3, 11-1 Ski Valley) with a two-run triple and a RBI single. Kara Liverance and Megan Comben had two hits while Mary Walsh, Amanda Rade and Nicole Tipton had RBI singles. Edgecomb had three hits, one of which was a triple, and drove in two runs in the opener. Amanda Shawl added two hits and a RBI, Bartsch a RBI double and Walsh a run-scoring single. Grayling 7 6 Joni Bindschatel won two games and Cayla Johnson pounded out three hits as Grayling sent Lincoln-Alcona packing with 7-1 and 6-4 defeats. Bindschatel's one-hitter with three strikouts propelled the Vikings to the opening-game win, aided by a 2-for-3 games from Johnson and Kelsey Neuberger. Johnson added another hit in the nightcap, an RBI double, and Bindschatel bolstered her own cause with a 2-for-3 game. Grayling (6-20) hosts its own tournament Saturday. Manistee 9 5 Manistee split a pair of games with Ludington, led by Julia Maksym. Maksym struck out 11 and gave up only five hits, plus had a 3-for-4 night at the plate with a triple and two RBIs. Ashley Potts was also 3-for-4, and Taylor Ozimac, Traci Guenthardt, Becca Brown and Kristen Merkey each had two hits. Guenthardt, Ozimac and Potts added two more hits each in the nightcap. Manistee plays at Mason County Central today. TC West JV 14 18 Lauren Bilinski and Emily Crawford pitched the Traverse City West JV to 14-1 and 18-3 victories over Kalkaska. Kelly Flynn and Haley Kanaskie had two hits apiece in the opener for the Titans (17-3). Jennifer Campbell's four hits fueled the attack in game two. TC West frosh 18 15 Jenny Kennedy and Shelby Newhouse shut down Petoskey in a pair of three-inning mercy wins, 18-0 and 15-1. Kennedy struck out six and gave up just one hit in the opener, while Laura Cizek had a double and triple and Alison Friar a double. Newhouse also fanned six in her start, and Tina Green had a double among her three hits, and Friar had two more hits, including her second double of the night for West (13-6).
