Track Roundup: Central, West post wins

Ray Gidley won four events and Blair Bell and Derrick Rudolph three each as Traverse City Central topped Petoskey 921/2-701/2 in a Big North Conference dual meet.

Gidley claimed the 100 (11.9) and 200 (23.9) and was part of the winning 400 and 800 relay teams.

He combined with Mike Heim, Ben Broad and Rudolph for the 800 win (1:34.4) and Heim, Bell and Rudolph in the 400 relay (45.3).

Rudolph and Bell were also on the winning 1600 relay team (3:34.5) with Dillon Lizenby and Jacob Borysiak and Bell won the 300 hurdles in 43.2 seconds.

Central's Peter Johnson won both the discus (132'11") and shot put (46'6").

Petoskey was led by Blaise and Derek Henning, who each won two events.

Blaise took the 1600 in 4:32.3, while Derek claimed the 800 in 2:03.2. The pair were also on the winning 3200 relay team (8:25.2).

Central is running in the Garland Relays at Suttons Bay on Thursday.

Greg Forrester won the 110 high hurdles (16.8) and 300 intermediates (42.0) to lead Traverse City West to a 139-23 Big North Conference boys track win over Gaylord.

Other West winners were:

LONG JUMP -- John Purdy 19'4"; HIGH JUMP -- Andy Zimmerman 5'11"; SHOT PUT -- Liam Bernhard 44'8"; DISCUS -- Dylan Comer 149'3"; 100 -- Keith Bristol 11.0; 1600 -- Greg Laylin 5:02; 400 -- John Kahout 55.9; 800 -- Ben Dean 2:12; 200 -- Zach Beeler 23.7.

Sims, Dreves help Bears beat GT Academy in dual

Justin Sims and Dave Dreves won three events as Buckley beat Grand Traverse Academy in a boys dual, the first track meet Buckley has hosted in a number of years.

Sims took the high jump (5'5"), 100 (12.41) and 300 hurdles (52.9) while Dreves claimed the shot put (37'2"), discus (110'1") and 200 (25.6).

Other Buckley winners were:

Depth leads Bellaire past four other Ski Valley foes

Bellaire won just three events, but its depth was the difference in a Ski Valley Conference meet.

The host Eagles won the meet with 1241/2 points. Inland Lakes was second with 90 points followed by Pellston (811/2), Gaylord St. Mary (33) and Johannesburg-Lewiston (22).

For Bellaire, Donovan Dawson won the pole vault (9'3") and Dakota Jones the discus (109'71/4'). The Eagles also took the 400 relay (46.57).

Ashley Leitner's school record in the pole vault highlighted TC West's 89-73 Big North Conference dual meet victory over Gaylord.

Leitner cleared 10 feet in the pole vault.

Margeaux Raymond was a double winner for the Titans, winning the high jump (5') and teaming with Christine Olson, Mandy Scott and Lilia Savela to take the 1600 relay (4:15.6).

Other West winners were:

SHOT PUT -- Sierra Breithaupt 33'7"; DISCUS -- Sarah Roper 78'9"; 3200 RELAY -- Erin Holstad, Jennifer Bragiel, Elise Carolan, Veronica Asch 10:21; 100 HURDLES -- Kara Pohlman 17.0; 1600 -- Kaylee VanDommelen 6:00.8.

Petoskey defeated Traverse City Central 93-58 in a Big North Conference girls track meet.

Stephanie Berrith was a double-winner for Central, taking the shot put (33'2") and discus (83'61/2").

Other Trojan winners included Emily Grof in the long jump (13') and Courtney Firman in the 1600 (6:04).

Rachel Zeppa and Stephanie Horning sparked Grand Traverse Academy to a 65-45 girls track win over Buckley.

Zeppa claimed the 100 (13.12) and 200 (27.31) while Horning captured the long jump (13'7") and 400 (1:06.

Relay teams key for Johannesburg-Lewiston

Johannesburg-Lewiston won three of the four relays to lead the Cardinals to victory at a Ski Valley Conference meet.

Johannesburg finished with 130 points. Inland Lakes was second with 96 followed by host Bellaire (74), Pellston (28) and Gaylord St. Mary (23).

The Cardinals won the 800 (1:54.37, 1600 (4:34.75) and 3200 (11:19) relays.
