Roundup: Alpena wins Petoskey golf invite

HARBOR SPRINGS -- Traverse City St. Francis posted the best finish among area schools at the Petoskey Invitational at the Moor course at Boyne Highlands.

Alpena won the overall title with a 311, three shots better than Division 3-4 champion Big Rapids.

St. Francis was third overall with a 315, followed closely by TC Central (317), Cadillac (320) and TC West (331), which beat Cheboygan in a tiebreaker for sixth.

Patrick Colburn led St. Francis with a 74. Andrew Walukonis added a 79, Tony Casciano an 80 and Mike Dendrinos an 82.

Clay Lesley had a 75 and Shane Darrow a 77 to pace TC Central. Andy Bump added an 82 and Brent Stevens an 83.

Cadillac was led by a 72 from individual medalist Carter Marsh.

Counting for TC West were Travis Walkowiak (81), Shane Hoffman (82), John Cannon (83) and Brian Kelly (85).

TC West won the JV portion with a 335, good for eighth overall. Josh Broad (82), Steven White (82) and Aaron Greenman (85) all shot personal bests while Corey Thiel added an 86.

The TC Central Yellow team fired a 456, led by a 109 from Matt Jackson and a 111 from Matt Rosinski.

West hosts an invitational on Saturday at The Crown.

St. Francis Blue team tops field at Grayling

The TC St. Francis Blue team placed three in the top five to win the Grayling Invitational with a 331.

Grayling was second with a 336, followed by Charlevoix (366), Boyne City (386) and East Jordan (402).

Mike Bork was second (81), Cam McCardel fourth (82) and Evan Miller fifth overall (83) for St. Francis Blue. Andrew Zelinski added an 85.

Grayling's Rocky McNamara was medalist with an 80. Trent Larm tied for second with an 81 while Taylor Desenfants shot an 86 and Josh Johnson an 89.

Also breaking 90 were Sean Couture of Charlevoix (85) and Chris Munk of Boyne City (88).

LACROSSE

YMCA Thunder 12
YMCA Bucks 8

Matt Shepler had four goals to lead the Thunder to a 12-8 win over the Bucks in a matchup of YMCA-sponsored lacrosse teams from Traverse City.

Andrew Elliott added two goals and one assist for the Thunder (6-1). Tyler McCullen and Riley Huffman also scored two goals while Luke Stricker and Cam Hodges had one.

Billy Baesch made 13 saves in net for the Thunder.

Jon Flynn and Justin Nickerson were the leading scorers for the Bucks.

Traverse City Central completed the dual meet portion of its Big North Conference schedule at 4-0 with a 7-1 win over Cadillac.

The Trojans, ranked No. 3 in Division I, remained undefeated at two flights. Ali Gribi and Laura Spencer posted a 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles while Maggie Milliken and Amanda Street prevailed 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles to raise their records to 23-0.

Kayla Casciano and Jen Boullion went to 22-1 with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 doubles. Emily Lelandais and Jillian Bergsma improved to 21-2 at No. 2 doubles with a 6-0, 6-1 verdict.

In singles, the Trojans welcomed Sarah Malone back to the lineup. Malone, who has been sidelined by an injury, scored a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Erin Chadwell (19-1) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 1 singles while Emily Burke netted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. Cadillac's Kat Hutchinson took a 6-4, 6-0 decision at No. 4 singles.

The Traverse City Central JV lost just one set in turning back Cadillac 8-0.

Victorious for the Trojans: Bridget Tiffany (6-2, 6-0), Savanah Micunek (6-0, 6-1), Lisa Ball (4-6, 6-2, 12-10), Emma Schilkey (6-3, 6-2), Carly Fowler/Sue Hardy (6-2, 6-4), Elyse Spencer/Stacey Kosch (6-2, 6-1), Bailey Wilson/Laura Burnheimer (6-1, 7-5), Becca Pfeiffer/Brittany Baldwin (6-1, 6-1).

The Traverse City Central JV Black won seven of eight flights to notch a 7-1 win over Traverse City Christian.

The Trojans won all four doubles flights.

Doubles wins came from Caiti Blanke/Jennifer Matson (6-3, 7-5), Ellen Whiting/Maddie Connick (6-0, 6-1), Alex Lamey/Grace Amalfitano (6-0, 6-0) and Claire Wodzien/Chloe Seymour (default).

Singles wins came from No. 1 Audrey Lyman (7-5, 6-1), No. 2 Kelly Krueger (7-5, 6-2) and No. 3 Taylor Schultz (7-6 [1], 6-4).

TC Christian's Alisha Bultsma won No. 4 singles by a 6-1, 6-4 count.

TC West JV 7
Elk Rapids JV 1

The TC West JV swept the singles en route to a 7-1 victory over the TC West JVs.

Winning in singles for West were Danika Baker at No. 1 (7-5, 6-3), Taylor Dow at No. 2 (6-0, 6-4), Tiahna Hays at No. 3 (6-2, 6-0) and Katrina Torgerson at No. 4 (6-0, 6-1).

Victorious in doubles for the Titans were Ally Jarosz/Amy Winton at No. 1 (7-6, 6-4) and Nicole King/Aly Mayer at No. 2 (6-1, 6-2).
