Anglers need new license by Tuesday

On Tuesday, all anglers will be required to have a new 2008 Michigan Fishing License, the Michigan Department of Resources says.

Copies of the 2008-2009 Fishing Guide and the Inland Trout and Salmon Guide are available at all license vendors around the state, the DNR said in its weekly fishing report.

Bear River: Steelhead are starting to show up at the mouth of the river.

Torch and Elk lakes: Are producing good catches of lake trout and whitefish.

Traverse City: Whitefish are being taken on the west bay.

Cedar Lake: In Leelanau County has excellent smelt fishing.

Manistee River: Steelhead fishing is still in a winter-type pattern because of the cooler weather.

Lake Cadillac: Still has good ice, and anglers are targeting crappie.

Lake Mitchell: Ice anglers are seeking panfish. Look for crappie in the coves.

Hamlin Lake: The bluegill action in the evening is spotty.

Pere Marquette Lake: A few perch are being taken.
