Wrestling Roundup: Stags capture Bangor invite

Kingsley won three weight divisions in capturing the 16-team Bangor Invitational.

The Stags finished with a tournament record 232 points. Jackson was second with 192 and Spring Lake third with 189.

Austin Sanchez at 130, Tyler Lajko at 145 and Cary Tompkins at 189 all finished 5-0 to win their divisions.

Gabe Collins took second at 135.

Finishing third were Steven Fultz at 125, Joey Leach at 140, Kirk Turner at 160, Lane Griffith at 215 and Tyler Croton at 285.

Placing fourth were Trevor Voice at 103, Calvin Montgomery at 112, Cody Mutter at 152 and Mike Olney at 171.

Brennon Fultz was seventh at 119.

Titans take second at Saginaw Heritage

Traverse City West rebounded from a tough mid-week loss to Petoskey by finishing second in the Saginaw Heritage Invitational.

The Titans went 4-1 on the day. They beat Byron Center 55-12, Ogemaw Heights 48-25, Alma 53-30 and Saginaw Heritage 48-27. Their loss was to tournament champion Brighton 56-9.

Winning four matches for West were Mike Ostrom at 103, Brad Gillison at 145, Lerone Howard at 152, Dee Kirksey at 171 and Matt Town at heavyweight.

Claiming three wins were Mitch Harrison at 112, Tyler Hyde at 135, John Hoye at 140 and Caleb Horn at 160.

Two Elk Rapids wrestlers finish unbeaten

Elk Rapids senior Garrett Foss (285) and junior Derek Petersen (140-145) won all five of their matches by pin in the 15-team Farwell Invitational.

The Elks finished 2-3. They lost to Farwll 59-24, Oscoda 60-18 and Saginaw Nouvel 60-18. They beat Pine River 48-23 and Harrison 42-39.

Mike Gray was 4-1 at 215. He won all four of his matches by pin.

West, Central JV wrestlers place

Traverse City West had three wrestlers place first in the Gaylord JV Invitational.

Winning their weight classes were Morgan Lemcool at 125, Morgan Tolle at 189 and Kyle Schaub at 152.

Taking second were Garrett Gensler at 195, Calvin Robinson at 125, Liam Curtis at 215 and Kyle Harris at 171.

Ethan Barth at 160 and Andrew Gutzka at 130 finished third.

Traverse City Central placed five wrestlers. Jacob Ausman was first at 171 and Justin Ray second at 103. Jack Siderman at 135, Nick Lazar at 171 and Vai Taula at heavyweight took third.
