Boys Basketball Roundup: Buckley upsets

BUCKLEY -- The comeback kids were at it again.

Buckley rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to hand Suttons Bay its first loss of the season on Friday night, 75-72.

The host Bears trailed 26-14 after one period and 39-38 at the intermission.

Buckley (2-2, 1-1 Northwest Conference) took a 49-48 lead into the final period and held on for the victory.

The Bears held Suttons Bay (4-1) to 32 percent shooting. Josh Ledford had 28 points to lead Buckley. Drew Corwin added 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Duwan Anderson had 22 points and Ben Walters 15 for Suttons Bay.

BIG NORTH

Cadillac 48
Petoskey 44

Drake-bound Ben Simons led Cadillac to a 48-44 win over Petoskey in the Big North Conference.

Simons poured in 30 points for the host Vikings (5-1, 2-1 BNC). Cory Starkey led Petoskey with 11 points.

Gaylord 72
Alpena 39

Eleven of Gaylord's 12 players scored as the Blue Devils remained unbeaten with a 72-39 triumph over Big North foe Alpena.

Quinn Woodhouse led the way for Gaylord (7-0, 3-0) with 12 points. Joe Arnold added 11 points and eight rebounds and Lucas Wickert 10 points.

HIGHLAND

McBain 48
Manton 42

McBain outscored Manton 14-4 in the final quarter to turn a deficit into a 48-42 Highland Conference win.

Caleb Sluiter had 16 points and Trenton Boeve 12 for McBain.

Jasper Woodcock had 15 points and Ryan Bredahl 10 for Manton (2-3, 1-1).

WEST MICHIGAN D

Mason Co. Eastern 71
Onekama 56

Mason County Eastern handed Onekama its first loss of the season, 71-56.

Kyle Purple had 20 points and Josh Bonnett 17 for Mason County Eastern.

Levi Capper had 16 points to pace Onekama (3-1, 3-1).

Adrian Norman and Skyler Kimple each contributed 12 points for the Portagers.

Manistee CC 78
Pentwater 60

Manistee Catholic improved to 4-0 in the West Michigan D with a 78-60 win over Pentwater.

Nick Doyle scored 25 points, Jordan Janowiak 14, Garrett Owens 12 and Nathan Miller 10 for Catholic (5-1).

CHERRYLAND

TC Christian 69
Leelanau School 25

Jake Eikey and Nathan Banks scored 22 points apiece as Traverse City Christian topped Leelanau School 69-25 in a Cherryland Conference game.

Scottie Raetz added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Sabres (4-4. Taehoon Kim had nine rebounds.

Chris Carson's 11 points led Leelanau School.

NON-LEAGUE

GT Academy 47
TC Prep 38

Josh Balesh knocked down 21 points as Grand Traverse Academy beat TC Prep 47-38.

Ken Marrow chipped in 11 points for Academy.

Brian Cornett netted 15 points and Zach Famiano 12 for Traverse City Prep (2-4).
