TRAVERSE CITY — Dakota George Stevens-Ogemaw, 29, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012. Dakota was born on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1982, to Katherine Stevens and Gregory Nicholas Jr. in Long Beach, Calif.
Dakota was a gifted artist who enjoyed drawing. He also enjoyed writing as well as composing poetry and fishing, and loved his dog, "Mishkwe".
He attended the Indian Mission Church in Northport.
Survivors include his son, Dakota Jr.; his mother and stepfather, Katherine Stevens and Victor Martinez, of Traverse City; his brother, Shane, of Arizona; and his paternal grandparents, Jane and Greg Nicholas, of Cantwell, Alaska. Also surviving are aunts, uncles and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his dad and his maternal grandparents, Juanita Ogemaw and George Stevens.
Dakota will be laid to rest in Cantwell, Alaska, next to his father. No services will take place in Traverse City.
