MUSKEGON — Bellaire advanced to the Division 4 boys soccer semifinals with a 1-0 victory over Muskegon Catholic Central on Friday.
Drew Emery scored the game winner with 7:13 left in the first half on a cross from Hunter Rowe. Adam Crandall had eight saves in goal for Bellaire (24-1).
“It’s hard to believe,” said Bellaire coach Brad Rowe. “This has been a goal of ours. To actually do it was really quite an experience. There was relief, excitement. It was a mixture of emotions.”
Bellaire had an opportunity to build on its lead with about 10 minutes left as Denny Hall sent a cross to Hunter Rowe, but the Eagles just couldn’t connect and had to battle until the final seconds ticked off the clock.
“Our defense played exceptionally well tonight,” Brad Rowe said. “Defensively, it was the best game we’ve played as a group.”
The Eagles move on to Wednesday’s semifinal against the winner of the Grand Rapids Covenant-Kalamazoo Hackett game being played tonight at Marcellus.
