---- — TRAVERSE CITY — A Traverse City man died in a two-vehicle crash in Long Lake Township.

Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Capt. Randy Fewless said the crash occurred Friday at 6:42 a.m. when an 89-year-old Traverse City man driving south on Gray Road failed to stop at the intersection with Cedar Run Road. The vehicle collided with an eastbound sport utility vehicle on Cedar Run Road driven by a Lake Ann woman, 26.

“The front ends of their vehicles met out in the intersection,” Fewless said. “It wasn’t head-on, it wasn’t ‘T-bone’ — basically the front of both them came to a point.”

Both vehicles rolled off the road into a ditch after the impact and snapped wires for a nearby power pole. Fewless said the man was able to speak to deputies and emergency personnel at the scene, but his condition began to deteriorate around the time he was transported to Munson Medical Center.

“Subsequent to that he succumbed to injury,” he said.

The initial investigation shows the man failed to stop at ‘T’-intersection where southbound traffic would have to turn.

The woman was also transported to Munson for treatment but didn’t suffer any significant injury. Both drivers were the only occupants in their vehicles.

Deputies closed and diverted traffic around the intersection for about three hours.

Fewless said he could not release the victim’s name because deputies had difficulty locating the victim’s family.
