AVON, Ohio — A crushing Game 5 loss in Friday’s early hours ended the Traverse City Beach Bums’ season.
The Beach Bums dropped a 5-4 game to the Lake Erie Crushers that was delayed by rain three times and didn’t finish until 1:11 a.m.
Traverse Ctiy led 4-2 after six innings when the longest delay occurred. Stoppage in the ballgame totaled 3 hours and 22 minutes due to rain delays.
The Beach Bums scored first for the third straight game as Scott Woodward singled home Marcus Nidiffer.
Chase Burch sparked the Beach Bums offense in the sixth inning when he took Dave Middendorf deep to tie it up 2-2. Burch’s homer was his fourth blast of the postseason. Traverse City continued as Zach Kometani followed up with a walk. Sean Gusrang put the Beach Bums back on top, doubling in Kometani. Reliever Matt Rein’s third offering to Matt Howard was a wild pitch that allowed Gusrang to score for a 4-2 TC lead.
The Crushers will play Schaumburg for the Frontier Cup.
