Traverse City — Holy Cross Children's Services will hold an information meeting on becoming a foster parent from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6.

Valentine sweets

Traverse City — First Baptist Church will host its third annual Sweet Shop and Rummage Sale just in time for Valentine's Day giving.

Homemade candy, baked goods, crafts, greeting cards and rummage sale items will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the church, 244 Washington St. For details, call Toni Hullet, 943-0653.

Relay for Life sale

Kaleva — The Kaleva Crusaders & Friends Relay for Life team will hold a bake sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Kaleva Meat Store. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.

Breathe better

Grayling — Mercy Hospital Grayling will offer a free series aimed at improving the quality of life for adults suffering from emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma and other breathing problems.

The Better Breathing series will meet from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Mondays, Feb. 11-April 8, at Mercy Hospital Grayling. There will be no class March 25. Topics include understanding medications, travel tips, breathing devices, panic control, building strength and energy conservation.

RNs meet

Traverse City — The Registered Nurses Association in Michigan will meet Tuesday, Feb. 12, for a program on chiropractic medicine.

Rick Randall, DC, will give the program from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in conference rooms A & B at Munson Community Health Center, 550 Munson Ave. One continuing education hour will be awarded to RNs attending the entire session. Pizza and salad will be available for $5 per person.

Quilt retreat

Traverse City — Bethlehem Lutheran Church will host a Quilt Retreat Saturday, Feb. 16, to make quilts for U.S. veterans to show appreciation for their service to their country.

Area quilters are invited to join the Sew-Pieceful Quilters group from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church, 1050 Peninsula Dr. The goal is to finish three quilt tops in one day.

Interfaith evening

Suttons Bay — On Saturday, Feb. 16, Imam Dr. Sahibzada of the Islamic Center of West Michigan joins "The Reverend and The Rabbi," Rabbi Chava Bahle of Or Tzafon and the Reverend Dr. Robin Long of Suttons Bay Congregational Church, for an interfaith program celebrating inclusivity, unity and peace through storytelling and music.

A welcome reception begins at 6:15 p.m. with the program at 7 p.m. at the Suttons Bay Congregational Church. Seating is limited and can be reserved by calling 271-6036. A free-will offering will be collected.

'Flannel' Sunday

Mancelona — "Flannel" Sunday will kick off a six-week sermon series at the Mancelona United Methodist Church.

The church invites worshipers to wear their best flannel shirt, dress or pajamas to the 11 a.m. service on Sunday, Feb. 10, then stay for soup, chili and homemade bread. The sermon series, "Not a Fan," will explore ways to be a true follower of Jesus.

Program on anxiety

Traverse City — The Teacher and Parent Educational Series continues with a presentation on anxiety in children and adolescents by Sander Weckstein, board- certified child, adolescent and general psychiatrist.
