Events bring in '13

Traverse City — Glen Eagle will host a series of events to start the new year.

The health benefits of laughter will be discussed at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at the "Let's Talk Seniors" talk.

A Wii bowling tournament will start at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5. All participants receive prizes.

Mocktail Happy Hour will be hosted at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6. There will be non-alcoholic beverages and Wheel of Fortune.

Program for women

Bear Lake — Psychiatrist Diane Langberg will give a program on sexual abuse by video at a community fellowship event for women.

The program will start at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Bear Lake Christian Church, M-72 West. Free lunch will be provided and reservations are requested; call 258-6112.

Happy Hour benefit

Traverse City — A Happy New Year Happy Hour on Monday, Jan. 7, will benefit the Alzheimer's Association.

The event will be hosted from 5 to 8 p.m. at Little Bohemia, 540 W. Front St. There will be music by Clint Weaner, a 50/50 drawing and a 'Regift" Silent Auction. Donations of unwanted gifts are being accepted for the silent auction. In addition, 15 percent of the night's proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer's Association.

Grief support group

Acme — Hospice of Michigan will offer a five-week support group for those dealing with the death of a loved one.

The Journey through Grief support group will meet 6:30-8:30 p.m. five Wednesdays starting Jan. 9, at Feast of Victory Lutheran Church, 4400 Mt. Hope Road. It will offer information on what to expect when grieving and coping strategies.
