Prep Sports Roundup: Rayders clinch LMC golf title

ATWOOD — Charlevoix clinched the Lake Michigan Conference golf championship Friday after winning the final league meet at Antrim Dells.

The Rayders came in with a 332 on Friday. St. Francis was a close second at 335. The Gladiators were followed by Elk Rapids (353), Kalkaska (357), Harbor Springs (358), Boyne City (361), Grayling (429) and East Jordan (507).

Charlevoix’s Brad Rizzo was medalist with a 75. Preston McDowell of Elk Rapids was four shots back at 79. St. Francis’ Joe Coates and Parker Guss carded an 81 and 83, respectively. Riley Lamie added an 85 and Ben Yanska 86 for the Gladiators.

Guss was the overall league champion, winning a one-hole playoff with Rizzo. The first-team all-conference squad also featured Coates, McDowell, Kalkaska’s Mitchell Dunn, Charlevoix’s Noah Jeakle and Boyne City’s Brad Fouchia.

 

Titans win BNC meet, Munch medalist

Traverse City West edged Central by eight shots to win a Big North Conference meet at Timber Wolf in Kalkaska.

The Titans shot a 323, Central a 331. The Trojans were followed by Gaylord (334), Petoskey (339), Ogemaw Heights (358) and Cadillac (369).

Central’s Winton Munch was medalist with a 73. West’s Alex Scott took second with a 78. Steven Gaston came in at 81 and Payden Myers and Cam Murray 83 for the Titans. Trey Pezzetti carded an 81, Dan Brott 86, Abe Lewis 91 and Riley Boyd 92 for the Trojans.

West won the JV meet with a 346. Gaylord took second (381) and Traverse City Central Black third (387). Gaylord’s Jim Robb was medalist with an 84. West’s Zach Perin fired an 86, Jacob Martin 87 and Keits Shoemaker 89. Central’s Bauer Jones finished with a 90, Wyatt Bartels 93, Zach Egbert 100 and Matt Wooten 104.

Cardinals capture girls regional at Mancelona

The Johannesburg-Lewiston girls won just one event, but still captured the 15-team Division 4 track regional at Mancelona.

The Cardinals finished with 113 points, Bellaire 103 and Harbor Springs 100.

Johannesburg’s Shannon Kievit won the long jump (15’6.75”).
