TRAVERSE CITY — Hospice of Michigan will host a "Write Your Life: Healing with Words" grief support writing workshop.

The program will meet from 10 a.m.-noon six Thursdays, Jan. 23-Feb. 27, at Hospice of Michigan's Bay View Center, 10850 E. Traverse Highway. Maria Housden, author of "Hannah's Gift" and "Unraveled," will lead exercises and conversations designed to help participants enjoy the process or writing and experience healing through their own words. Hospice Grief Support Services Manager Kathryn Holl will help lead the workshop.

Benzie Dems meet

BENZONIA — The Benzie County Democratic Party will meet at 10 a.m. today, Jan. 18, at the Benzonia Township Hall, 1020 Michigan Ave. Anyone interested in 2014 gains for the Benzie Dems is welcome.

Storytelling series

TRAVERSE CITY — A series of monthly storytelling performances continues on Monday, Jan. 20.

The "Here:Say" series debuted in October and is designed to inspire people to tell their own stories. Performances on the third Monday of each month feature six to 10 invited performers who tell personal tales on a given theme. The next performance is at 7 p.m. at InsideOut Gallery, 229 Garland St. The theme is "Meet Here:Say at the Water Cooler" and will focus on tales of the workplace.

Help food pantries

TRAVERSE CITY — Local Taco Bell locations will accept donations of non-perishable food items to help re-stock local food pantry shelves after the holiday season.

Anyone making a food donation through Feb. 10 at the Taco Bell locations in the Grand Traverse Mall, at Chum's Corner, at 1447 S. Airport Road, and at 816 E. Front St. will receive a certificate for a free taco. Guests may place their donation in the collection bin located in the restaurant lobbies.

'Financial Fitness'

TRAVERSE CITY — The Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency (NMCAA) will offer a workshop series designed to help participants change the way they manage their money.

"Financial Fitness" sessions will meet from 6-9 p.m. at the NMCAA, 3963 Three Mile Road. Topics are "Setting Financial Goals," Jan. 22; "Taxes and Insurance," Feb. 20; "Budgeting," March 20; "Credit and Credit Repair," April 23; "Banks and Financial Institutions," May 22; and "Staying Financially Fit," June 23.

Nursing program info

PETOSKEY — North Central Michigan College's nursing and allied health faculty will hold an information session Thursday, Jan. 23, to explain the process for admission into the college's nursing and allied health career programs.

The session starts at 4 p.m. in room 347 of NCMC's Health Education and Science Center, 1515 Howard St. Anyone planning to apply for the nursing or allied health programs is encouraged to attend this or an upcoming informational session. The information on prerequisites is especially important for those applying for the fall 2014 program.

Additional sessions will be held Feb. 20, March 20 and April 24.
