Bob Eugene Schepers

TRAVERSE CITY — Bob Eugene Schepers, 88 years of age, of Traverse City, formerly of McBain, Muskegon and Jackson, passed away Nov. 30, 2012, with his loving family nearby. His parents were Joseph and Kate (VandePol) Schepers, of McBain.

The youngest of six brothers and sisters, Bob was a 1942 graduate of McBain High School and received his degree in forestry from Michigan State University in 1949, where he was captain of the MSU Track Team.

He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps, a Purple Heart recipient and P.O.W., serving his country with honor and distinction.

He was employed with the Consumers Power Company for 32 years, retiring in 1982 as the company's forester.

Bob had been a member of the McBain United Presbyterian Church and attended the Faith Reformed Church in Traverse City.

He was the beloved husband of the former Mary Lou (Masselink), whom he married Dec. 15, 1945, in McBain.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; he was the devoted and beloved father of James (Nancy) Schepers, of South Haven and Virginia (Rollin) Sanders, of Sharon, Mass.; beloved grandfather of Rob (Stacey) Schepers, of Grand Rapids, Katherine (Michael) Paull, of Columbus, Ohio, and James Sanders, of Sharon, Mass.; and loving great-grandfather of Alice Schepers, of Grand Rapids. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Catherine Schepers, of McBain; as well as many nephews, nieces and friends. He was also the beloved friend of Sam and Bing and the great outdoors.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at the Young Funeral Home in Lake City, with the Rev. Marshall Holtvluwer officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Young Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in the Mount View Cemetery in McBain.
