Prep Sports Roundup: Elk Rapids shuts out Kingsley

ELK RAPIDS — Elk Rapids improved to 2-0 with a 40-0 shutout of Kingsley.

The Elks (2-0) host Traverse City St. Francis next week.

Elk Rapids led 27-0 by halftime.

“Two weeks in a row our defense has been solid,” Elks coach Ed Schindler said of his team that hasn’t surrendered a point so far this season. “We’ve been gang tackling. It’s nice seeing the physicality come back to Elk Rapids football.”

Thais Grays ran four times for 100 yards and two touchdowns, Logan Sentieri added six carries for 72 yards and a score and Adam Troutman had one TD passing and another rushing.

Sean Wells led the Elks defense with 10 tackles and Ryan Bush had eight.

Nate Zenner led Kingsley’s offense with 11 carries for 55 yards, while Mike Boss had 15 solo tackles and Jake Zenner made eight stops and had two sacks.


Glen Lake 28

Charlevoix 0

Carter Lee threw two touchdown passes and ran for a third as Glen Lake blanked Charlevoix 28-0 in a non-league game.

Lee connected with Thomas Waning from 32 yards and Logan LaCross from 3. He also sprinted 25 yards for the game’s first score. Travis Wiltjer added a 23-yard touchdown run.

The Lakers (2-0) gained 243 yards on the ground and 122 in the air. Charlevoix had 190 yards rushing and 57 in the air.

Trevor Apsey led the ground game with 71 yards. Lee added 68 and Wiltjer 61.

Lee was 10 of 17 passing. Waning caught five for 98 yards.

For Charlevoix, Sam Hovie rushed for 119 yards.

Apsey led the Lakers defense with 13 tackles. Bryan Noirot had nine tackles for the Rayders (1-1), who lost three players to injury.

Kalkaska 26

Suttons Bay 7

Will Noble completed 7 of 11 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns as Kalkaska defeated Suttons Bay 26-7 in a non-league game.

Noble tossed an 80-yard touchdown pass to Justus Holtz on the game’s first play. Holtz also hauled in a 31 scoring pass. He finished with four catches for 125 yards.
