— TRAVERSE CITY — One chilly day in the Traverse City Tee-Off Invitational, and Traverse City West is within striking distance of a top-three finish in the 38-team event.
The Titans shot 328 to tie with Clarkston for fourth place. Detroit Catholic Central leads the tournament’s Division 1 portion with a 305, followed by Muskegon Mona Shores (311) and Rochester Adams (324). TC Central is in seventh at 332.
“The temperatures warmed up, but the wind picked up even more,” said West coach Mike Schultz. “It is a bonus to be playing golf in our area code.”
Friday’s opening round was played on Spruce Run, while today’s conclusion is on The Wolverine starting at 9 a.m.
Cameron Murray led West with a 79, followed by Payden Myers (81), Brady Greenman (83) and Alex Scott and Keits Shoemaker with 85s.
Central’s best score came from Winton Munch, who shot a 74, which was good for second place in the division. Other Central scores were Derek Schrank with an 83, Trey Pezzetti with an 85 and Danny Brott with a 90.
Detroit Catholic Central is leading the tournament with a 305. Catholic Central’s Phil Ritchie shot a 72 to lead all players.
Suttons Bay shot a 353, playing on the Wolverine course. Devin Capron led the way with an 84. Sean Lammy carded an 86, followed by Eric Chapman’s 89 and Lars Thornton’s 94. East Grand Rapids is leading the Division 2-4 portion of the meet with a 324. Gaylord is third (340). Cadillac finished with a team score of 361, while Leland shot a 381, led by Joel Sneed’s 79.
