Prep Sports Roundup: TC West outshoots Gaylord twice

TRAVERSE CITY — TC West won its first two Big North baseball games of the season on Friday, beating Gaylord 15-0 and 23-1.

Walt Borkovich and Trent McDougall combined on a no-hitter in the first game. Borkovich struck out seven in the win. In the second game Max Ludka allowed only two hits and fanned six. McDougall had four strikeouts in relief.

At the plate for the Titans (3-1, 2-0 Big North) in the opener, Geordan Carter had three hits and three RBIs, Teegan Kenny had three hits and two RBIs, Borkovich had two hits and three RBIs, and Dean Simsa and Donny Cizek each had two hits.

In the second game McDougall had four hits, including three doubles, and had four RBIs. Jared Roth added three hits and two RBIs, Carter had a double among three hits and Collin Bush homered and drove in three runs.

The Titans travel to Grand Rapids Union today.


Frankfort 17 13

Onekama 3 0

Ken Frieswyk and Owen Stratton held Onekama’s offense in check, limiting the Portagers to four hits in a 17-3 and 13-0 doubleheader sweep.

Stratton started the opener, and struck out six in four innings of two-hit ball. Nolan Nye was 3-for-3 with a double, Kole Hollenbeck went 2-for-2 with a double and Frieswyk had a double among two hits.

Frieswyk gave up two hits and struck out three in five frames of the nightcap win, and Brennan Flynn was 3-for-4.

The Panthers (8-2) host Lake Leelanau St. Mary’s on Tuesday.

Kalkaska 6 11

East Jordan 0 0

Kalkaska opened the 2013 baseball season with a pair of shutout wins in action against East Jordan on Friday.

Chris Spann threw a two-hitter in the first game and Zach Hill followed with a one-hitter. Spann struck out eight and Hill fanned two. Nick Mitchell led the Blazers offensively in the second game going 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Hill added two hits as did Kollyn Wilson.
