---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Michigan Department of Community Health officials awarded Traverse City a grant to maintain fluoride levels in drinking water.
Traverse City, one of nine municipalities selected for a fluoridation equipment grant, will receive about $23,000.
Fluoridation involves adjusting the fluoride concentration of a water supply to a levels best suited for the prevention of dental cavities.
Roughly 90 percent of communities in Michigan with water systems have access to fluoridated water.
Okemos-based Delta Dental Foundation donated $100,000 to the grant program.
