New road manager will be paid $95,000

TRAVERSE CITY — Grand Traverse County will pay its new road commission manager, Jim Cook, $95,000 a year.

Cook and the road commission board worked out the agreement Nov. 1 and he will begin work on Nov. 26.

Cook was the executive director at Great Lakes Safety Training Center in Midland, a nonprofit that provides workplace and occupational safety training for contractors.

An engineer, he has previous experience working for a large developer doing both subdivisions and large commercial projects, said Marc McKellar, road commission board chairman.

"It was his leadership qualities, extensive experience with finances, and that he has managed a large group of people and has outstanding communication skills that made him the board's unanimous choice," McKellar said. "We think he's going to be a good fit."
