National Day of Prayer
MANCELONA — Anyone who cares about Mancelona, families and the future is invited to a National Day of Prayer event May 1.
The non-denominational gathering starts at 7 p.m. at Triangle Park in downtown Mancelona. Area pastors will lead the group in prayer and there will be a chance for people to fill out individual prayer requests. Afterward, dessert and beverages will be served at Mancelona United Methodist Church. In case of inclement weather, the event also will be held at the church.
Holocaust Remembrance Day
TRAVERSE CITY — Join cave explorer Chris Nicola for a free screening of his documentary “No Place on Earth,” an exploration of how 38 Jews survived the Holocaust by hiding in a Ukranian cave for 18 months.
The event takes place at the State Theatre on Wednesday and begins at 5:50 p.m. The presentation begins at 6:15 p.m. and features an introduction, Q&A session and an opportunity to buy Nicola’s book “The Secrets of the Priest’s Grotto: A Holocaust Survival story.”

Benzie Day of Prayer
BENZIE COUNTY — Benzie County will observe National Day of Prayer on May 1.
The day opens with breakfast at 7 a.m. at the Hungry Tummy in Beulah. From noon-1 p.m., the public is invited to gather at the following locations for informal prayer: the Frankfort High School flag pole, Honor flag pole by the Post Office, Lake Ann flag pole by the Post Office and the Beulah Government Center. Participants may come and go as time allows.
TRAVERSE CITY — Certified reflexologist Sandy Woodcock and artist, writer and teacher Claire Crandell will offer a hand reflexology and mandala painting workshop on May 1.
