Body and Soul Newsmakers: 03/09/2013

Kalkaska Memorial Health Center recently received the Michigan Center for Rural Health’s 2012 Spirit of Quality Award for its sepsis improvement initiative in the emergency department.

To qualify for the award, Kalkaska Memorial’s multidisciplinary team showed how the hospital embraced meaningful changes through reviewing its processes and creating interventions that are improving sepsis diagnosis and care.


Michigan Legacy Art Park on the grounds of Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville received a $19,000 grant from Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. The funds will support the mission-driven activities of the art park.


The Grand Traverse County Health Department received a $2,500 grant from the Delta Dental Foundation to promote the expansion of the Healthy Kids Dental program.

Thirty-three grants totaling $105,116 were awarded to programs in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. Winners were selected based on the activity’s focus on children, uniqueness, potential value, measurable results and community involvement.
