Youth roller derby
TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Roller Derby and LEAP have partnered together to develop a Junior Roller Derby Program.
The LEAP Junior Derby is for children ages 8 to 17. All skill levels are welcome and no previous skating experience is required. Skaters need to provide their own equipment, however some rental and/or loaner equipment may be available on a first come, first served basis.
A six-week basic session starts Sunday, Dec. 1, at noon in the East Middle School cafeteria, 1776 Three Mile Road. The registration deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 27, and the cost is $100 per child. For details or to register, visit www.tcaps.net.
CEDAR — The Cedar/Maple City Lions will be selling fresh-cut Christmas trees this holiday season.
Lions Club members will be available to help shoppers from noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, Nov. 30-Dec. 1, Dec. 7-8 and Dec. 14-15. The sale location is a half a mile east of the M-72 and County Road 669 junction, about 111/2 miles west of Tom’s West Bay. Shoppers also may cut their own any time and send a check to Cedar/Maple City Lions, P.O. Box 28, Maple City, MI 49664.
A donation of $10 for spruce trees and $25 for fir trees is suggested. Proceeds will help fund a local food basket program.
TRAVERSE CITY — The St. Andrew Society will host a gathering Sunday, Dec. 1, at Mt. Holiday.
A buffet dinner will be served at 6 p.m., followed by Highland dancers, haggis, bagpipes, a harpist and door prizes. The cost is $20 for adults. Reservations are required; call 947-3902.

TRAVERSE CITY — Northwestern Michigan College will offer an eight-week certification preparation program starting in January for prospective Certified Nurse Assistants and has scheduled two free information sessions in December.
The information sessions will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, or Tuesday, Dec. 17, at NMC’s University Center on Aero Park Drive. Program information and applications will be available.
The certification program will meet Jan. 23 through March 16. Students will gain the knowledge and skills needed to take the Michigan Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation Test. For details, visit www.nmc.edu.cna.
