Thompson competes at Chicago camp

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City’s Garrett Thompson worked out this week at the NHL Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks Development Camp.

The camp ended Friday.

Thompson, a senior wing at Ferris State, took part in the Calgary Flames prospect camp a year ago.

Hounds sign Petoskey’s Hansen

TRAVERSE CITY — Defenseman Kevin Hansen, a 19-year-old Petoskey native, has signed a tender agreement to play for the Traverse City Hounds in the Midwest Junior Hockey League.

Hansen finished with 11 goals with 11 assists for 22 points while serving as an assistant captain for Petoskey last season. His 11 goals were third on the team.

Brons-Piche to play in USAPL

LORTON, Va. — Traverse City’s Nikolaj Brons-Piche will compete in the US Amateur Public Links (USAPL) at Laurel Hills, starting Monday.

Brons-Piche is a Traverse City Central graduate and currently a sophomore at Texas Wesleyan University. He’s a member of the Texas Wesleyan golf team, which finished runner-up in the NAIA national championship. Brons-Piche recently played in the Michigan Am and advanced to the Sweet 16, losing to Traverse City resident and eventual champion Andrew Chapman.

Ellsworth to host softball tourney

ELLSWORTH — The 40th annual Ellsworth Men’s Slowpitch Softball Tournament will be held July 26-27.

The double-elimination tournament will consist of up to 12 teams with three games guaranteed. It’s a wooden bat (furnished) tournament with one home run per inning.

The entry fee is $140 with trophies awarded to the top three teams, plus individual awards to players on the championship team. An MVP award will also be given.

Proceeds will go toward replacement of the dugout at Drenth Field.
