Toys at museum

MESICK — The Mesick Area Historical Museum’s annual “Toys from the Past” exhibit will be on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 1 and 8, or by appointment.

The exhibit features a variety of toys, some from 70 years ago, on loan to the museum. The museum is located at 117 Mesick Ave. For details, visit www.mesickmuseum.com.

Cunningham feted

EAST JORDAN — The Jordan River Art Center will celebrate the late Dick Cunningham, who died in September 2012.

Cunningham served on the art center’s board for many years and was a top-rated artist. He received a degree in studio pottery from Mott Community College and later a teaching certificate and a master of arts degree in ceramics and graphics from Michigan State University. He also taught at East Jordan High School for many years. Many of his ceramics sculptures, works in oil, and drawings will be on display.

The celebration will be held Sunday, June 2, at the JRAC, 301 Main St. Many of Cunningham’s students, teacher and artist friends will present readings, poetry and commentaries concerning their relationship with him and the Northwest Academy Band will perform at 2 p.m.

The exhibit celebrating Cunningham will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. through Friday, June 7. The JRAC is closed Mondays.

Beer and hymns

TRAVERSE CITY — The community is invited to sing hymns and enjoy beer on Monday, June 3, at Right Brain Brewery.

All ages are invited to the 7 p.m. get-together. Soft drinks, beer, wine, water and snacks will be provided. For details, contact the Rev. Justin Grimm of Advent Lutheran Church, 275-8031.

Drum circle

Traverse City — The Middle Eastern Drum Group will host a free community drum circle on Tuesday, June 4.

The public is invited to bring a chair, drums, rhythm makers or just themselves and join the circle from 8 p.m. to sunset by the volleyball courts near the Open Space on Grandview Parkway. All ages are welcome.
